We are often told to sit with the child, ask questions,
and 'narrate' their play. Do you get annoyed when someone is sitting beside you, talking and asking questions? Just let them play. There is no need to build a curriculum around it... just let them play.

Where did these ridiculous phrases we use when talking 'at' children come from? For example "walking feet" "inside voices" 'listening ears" "feet on the floor" or "up the ladder, down the slide". It feels disrespectful and another way of trying to control children.

We were just approved for a large grant so we are moving towards the dream of a better, more natural play space.
I just read it and it makes me miss my own forest and nature school. I am currently directing a program that has a very small yard… my goal is to make it BIGGER and more natural!

Why is there this need to control children? There is this need to move children through their day as a group for the good of the program that the adults have created, withholding and manipulating to get this control.
