Whatever they say, it is patriotic to ask questions of a war that sends our troops into harm's way.
And, most importantly, it is human to ask those same questions when bombs target children and other civilians, wherever they might be from.

"I think that we are in an era where where silence is complicity," she says, "and so not speaking is a view. It is supporting the status quo. It is endorsing what is happening."
Predictably, conservatives chastised her.
But Earls says it shouldn't be controversial for a judge to point out that, based on media reports of ICE and Border Patrol activities, agents appeared to be racially profiling people.
On Nov. 19, several days after Border Patrol arrived in Charlotte, Earls put out a statement on social media.
"I cannot be silent while the constitutional rights of our neighbors are being violated right here in North Carolina," she said.
In mid-November, agents with the US Border Patrol and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began a high-profile crackdown in Charlotte and other North Carolina cities.
Social media was filled with videos of armed, masked men in action.
NC Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls knows Republicans are out to get her. But in November, Earls did something she's never done before as a sitting Supreme Court justice. She spoke directly about something happening in the news.

What we're looking at right now is a clear political strategy.
It's meant to shift the outcome of close elections in NC to Republicans. And anyone who tells you otherwise is either gaslighting you or blind to the last 15 years of NC GOP election shenanigans.
Republicans even voted to cut Sunday voting hours in some places, despite, for instance, a local election board member in Greene County pointing out that Sunday voting is the most popular time for Black residents to vote.
Since taking control of NC's election boards in 2025, Republicans have aggressively slashed early voting sites and voting hours.
A December analysis by nonpartisan Common Cause found GOP boards in 24 of NC’s 100 counties are reducing the number of polling places or the number of voting hours.
It’s not just NC A&T and UNC-Greensboro. The State Board of Elections also approved a plan with no polling places at Western Carolina University, which according to Carolina Public Press, has led the state with the highest proportion of same-day registrations in 8 of the last 9 elections.
Republicans on the State Board of Elections looked those students in the face and said “no” for … reasons.
On Jan. 13, members of the Republican-controlled State Board of Elections voted against putting an early voting site on NC A&T’s campus, as well as an early voting site at nearby UNC-Greensboro, despite students’ requests for them to do so.
Some truly outrageous things are happening in Greensboro at NC A&T University, the largest historically Black college in America.
