Donald Glover has a wild career path. He did silly internet videos, then he was the silly guy on Community, then he had a hit song critiquing the racism America is built on, and now he's in a bunch of big franchise films like Star Wars, Lion King, Spider-Man, and Mario.
It reminds of the whole, "If your weapons are NFTs, you can use them in any game!" nonsense. An idea that only sounds cool if you don't understand why people play games, how they're made, or frankly the entire technology you're desperately trying to convince people is useful.
This makes me imagine a cozy RE spinoff about an Umbrella employee raising BOWs

Switch 1 really didn't have much to look forward to at this point either. Year 2 was extremely slow, basically entirely carried by Smash Ultimate, which wasn't announced by this point.
Or even more egregious is Motal Kombat, where the last 4 games introduced 3 types of time travel and 2 universe resets just to avoid having to move past the classic trilogy. They did a whole Next Generation timeskip and then hit the reset button literally one game later.
In comparison, I can think of a bunch of other long running series that basically discard everything new after every new entry.
Like if your favorite Street Fighter character was introduced after Super Turbo, there's a good chance you'll never see them outside cameos again after their debut game.
Pokemon gets a lot of heat for gen 1 pandering, but I think they actually do a pretty good job at spreading the love across the series. Generally it feels like about 50% of the focus is split between gen 1 and the most recent gen, and the other 50% is split between the rest of the gens.
This is all making me think about Luca. Clearly supposed to be a gay love story, but they got cold feet. At this point I think it's fair to guess Docter meddled in that one too.

You'd probably have fun, but the story kind of assumes some familiarity with the series so you might be a bit lost there.
I think you'll get more out of RE9 if you play RE2 remake and RE4 remake first, to get Leon's full story.
I have a weird fascination with the idea of impermanence, especially when it comes to art. Sometimes it feels good to make something and then just destroy it. I put so much time and effort into this, and now it only exists in my memory. It's freeing in a way.
Imagine if RE9 came out in the SuperWhoLock era. Tumblr would be going absolutely rabid for this man, indistinguishable from the zombie hordes that so often try to tear him to pieces.

You should be able to suplex a zombie once in RE9 but then you hear Leon's back loudly crack and he can't get back up so you're just softlocked

When I think back to every phase of my life, there isn't a single one I can point to and say, "Oh yeah, that's a time when I felt happy. That's a feeling I want to recapture." It's just varying degrees of depression as far back as I can remember.
Saw a post that was supposed to be inspirational, talking about how if you're in a bad place you can get through it and get back to a place where you're happy. But it just bummed me out because I don't think I even have a happy to go back to.
Nothing is more Resident Evil than having a big twist or tease for the next game and then not actually following up on it in the next game.
So when you finally do get a player, yeah, you don't want to give them something bland and forgettable. But you also don't want to give them an easy excuse to turn the game off. It's a difficult balancing act.
As an indie, it's extremely hard to even get someone to sit down in front of your game and give it a fair shake. If you make a free browser game so they don't even have to pay or download anything, even your closest friends and family probably won't find the time to give it a shot, much less randos.
Because as a dev, I do try to avoid streamlining too much. And I've watched people encounter a bit of friction I intentionally included to make the game more interesting, and immediately check out instead of taking a few seconds to understand what the game is asking of them and adapt to it.
Sure. I'm not saying indies should do everything by the book and have zero friction. Just that people who point to Fromsoft and say, "See? They make games with a ton of friction! Just do that!" need to understand that we aren't Fromsoft. We need to be more mindful of where we put our friction.
Acclaimed games tend to be acclaimed for a reason, but if your top 10 consists entirely of games that dominate every Best Game Ever discussion and doesn't include any games made before the PS4, I think you need to expand your horizons.
Sometimes a Youtuber shows their top 10 games and I'm immediately like, ah, so you just turned 20, only play Reddit Popular games, and don't touch anything more than 10 years old except Skyrim and Minecraft.
I know I'm being a judgmental asshole, but it's always the same handful of games.
