Toy Story 2 is a great movie at all ages, but it is exponentially more devastating in your 30s than when you’re a kid.

No, different book. That’s Chuck Tingle’s upcoming β€œPounded in the Butt by the 1929 Stock Market Crash and Subsequent Economic Downturn”

Internet arguing peaked with this flame war and it’s all been downhill since.

We engineered the Most Canadian Man in a lab and then made him play baseball.

That tracks. Why labour in a seedy dive bar for weeks on an elaborate con when you can just sell them garbage on a well-lit trading floor instead?

Me every 5 pages while reading Andrew Ross Sorkin’s book on the 1929 financial crash:

β€œThat’s a pump & dump”
β€œYup, also a pump & dump”
β€œOh hey, another pump & dump”
β€œNice to break up the pump & dump schemes with some insider trading”
β€œBack to our regularly scheduled pump & dump scheme programming”

Aligns nicely with every American Evangelical Thought Leader clearly salivating at the chance to be Patriarch Kirill.

Yeah that’s the one genuinely annoying change, but compared to the scale of rollback in every other Canadian city I think we’re still in good shape on their active use program.

(I should be clear that when I say β€œthe City” here I mostly mean β€œMark Sutcliffe”)

Hilariously, the only North American jurisdiction that has not seen an attempted rollback is Ottawa-Gatineau, and that’s only because the key active use roadways are controlled by the National Capital Commission rather than by the City (who absolutely would have rolled them back if given the chance)

This is what we need right now. Political leaders with a combination of solid principles and moral courage.

And it’s all well-done steaks, so even by the standards of modern protein-heavy diets you would be speedrunning digestive tract cancers in the process.

Mom’s side: army cook, part-time bookkeeper, part-time regional scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Everyone is quick to jump to the gunship levels in CoD games as the point of reference but it really is multiplayer montages of guys getting and then popping off AC-130s or Chopper Gunners

So many smart-guy conversations consist of two dumb bitches telling each other β€œexaaaaactlyyyy”, & Chotiner adroitly weaponizes that.

This is it. There was a path back from it that I'd have been sympathetic to, and the path Platner chose to take was...not it.

Before his fourteen-month stint at BlackRock he'd been in the civil service since the early 1990s. This is a "called back to the public sector mothership" hire.

Slight nuance to that: before he was at Blackrock, Purves was a longtime Finance/Treasury Board Secretariat exec (with stints as Canada's Executive Director at the EBRD and IMF)
