Happy #WorldBookDay!
Reading has been one of the most important interests in my life, especially since childhood. I am the writer I am today because I read.
What are you currently reading?
(My answer: βNeuroTribesβ by Steve Silberman.)
North Carolina. Itβsβ¦ interesting.
Youβre not. Itβs so misogynistic, alongside being ableist. I feel like autistic women have to deal with an extra dosage of misogyny on top ofβ¦ everything else.
We have a trade to announce (as long as the player says yes and we ever find out the actual details of the deal)
Iβve battled with disordered eating for a long time, and I love womenβs hockey. Iβm horrified to see Ozempic ads ON THE BOARDS during games as everyone I know gets thinner and thinner. I cannot escape this at all.
A graphic titled βMASKINGβ lists examples of behaviours associated with masking in neurodivergent individuals, including not speaking for fear of appearing awkward, practising conversations and phone calls, mimicking othersβ gestures and tones of voice, suppressing stims and feelings of overstimulation, forcing eye contact, rehearsing social scripts, and sacrificing personal needs for the comfort of others. The design features layered side-profile silhouettes.
As SEND reform evolves, thereβs a real risk that children who mask will be overlooked, despite carrying significant hidden anxiety & exhaustion. We believe true inclusion starts with emotional safety, so young people can unmask, belong, and be valued for who they are, not just how well they cope.
On a white background, there is an image of a girl in a red jersey with the Carolina Hurricanes logo in the middle, a white hat, and brown hair. She is laughing. In black text reads βThis is who writes about hockey on the Internet.β
On a white background, there is a girl wearing a black t-shirt and jeans with brown hair. She is holding a flute case. In black text reads, βThis is who talks openly about mental health on the Internet.β
On a white background, there is a little girl in a grey dress, polka dot leggings, and a pink coat. In black text reads, βThis is who is out as queer and advocates for LGBTQ+ rights.β
On a white background, a little girl is holding a white dog stuffed animal. In black text reads, βThis is who is finally diagnosed with autism and is a neurodiversity advocate.β
Shoutout to @sarahspain.com for the idea β I also had to jump on the train, because this trend is awesome.
Thinking of younger variations of myself, always, and giving her the kindness I wish Iβd gotten at that time.
Or when he came up with the bullshit ββmale brainβ theory, which played a huge role in the underdiagnosis or misdiagnosis of autistic girls and women throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
How he continues to be given a platform on autism is beyond me.
Me, a North Carolinian, seeing the entire TL praise Thom Tillis:
Alex.
Adding on to this β the Elliotte Friedman stuff will (rightfully) get most of the attention, because his comments were disgusting AND he refused to speak about it.
This is excellent journalism. I hope this leads to changes in the industry.
Shireen did a phenomenal job on this piece. This issue isnβt limited to just Canada β itβs also an American hockey problem, and yes, even your βfavorite fun progressive hockey news sitesβ are a problem too.

Good morning, lovely people!
Itβs been a stressful 24 hours, but have no fear β your MontrΓ©al Victoire play this evening in Toronto at 7pm EST.
(It is, unfortunately, the only time they play this week.)
This is truly the crux of it. Itβs not about shielding kids or promoting βtraditional valuesβ β itβs about straight up removing options, and the ability to imagine, from their worldview
For context, the CBSC has received so many complaints about Friedmanβs comments that they put out a statement asking people to stop filing complaints.
The Wall of MontrΓ©al.
hockey's borderline fetishization of injury and its overall labor weakness are direct causative agents in many of the cultural problems in the sport, in this essay I willβ

A PSA: Please stop taking my tweets/ideas and passing them off as your own. Repeatedly.
Thatβs called βplagiarismβ, and most writers know to avoid doing so, because itβs immoral and so disrespectful to the person youβre ripping off.
I canβt believe Iβm having to post this, but here we are.
βIβm coming to the cottage.β
I said this on someone elseβs post about this βcomedyβ, but I used to work with comedians at a hockey news site. Not all of them, but A Lot of them, are vehemently ableist, even if theyβre ND themselves. It sucks, but this isnβt surprising that SNL did this whatsoever.
I used to work with comedians who *loved* SNL. They were horrifically ableist. Not surprised to see this at all.
Today is Disability Day of Mourning.
People with disabilities are far more likely to be trapped in abusive relationships.
To be killed.
To be assaulted.
Weβre forced into legislated poverty & made to be dependent on people who donβt always have our best interests at heart.
Today is March 1st, the disability day of mourning to honor victims of filicide
donβt really want to say a lot about it w/ everything but this is a bigger problem than one might expect & ASAN has tools
ok thatβs enough on that today for me, thank you, I love you, please be safe & kind if you can π«Άπ»
On a much more positive note, Iβm seeing that todayβs game is the PWHLβs third straight sold-out game.(Seattle, Ottawa, and now, Montreal.)
Everyone watches womenβs hockey!
Donβt get me wrong β the PWHL is 100% worthy of support, and Iβll still be cheering for the Victoire. But as someone with a history of disordered eating (as many women have, starting in childhood), the Ozempic on the boards just makes me sad. And a little hopeless for younger girls.
