this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldnβt even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

LCOE is better though a bit more complex to calculate and explain. At a minimum the writer should acknowledge the limitations of $/kW comparison.
The language βmegawatt producedβ is a tip off that the writer is missing nuance of capacity vs energy output.
A lot of people still donβt realize that dramatic cost reductions in geothermal is something happening *right now*, not theoretically in the future.
Here is a look at the cost numbers published by NREL every year for Deep Enhanced Geothermal. A 50% improvement in 2024 with a lot more to come.
Thatβs what I said*
But didnβt post so I have no proof.
Abundant hydropower! Thanks to investments made 50-100 years ago.

A draft kings mailer offering $1,000 credit if you wager $15,000 on slots and $40,000 on tables.
Hooked on mobile gambling?
Oh, not yet? How about $1000 in free credit.
Yeah, no strings attached. Just wager $55,000 to collect.

I assume the question is about incremental peak demand growth each year.
100s to 1,000s of bikes ready for new homes
Happy bike cleaners.
Classic Schwinn World Tourist style cruiser bike with matching original fenders in a repair stand getting prepped for a new home.
Recently took a couple volunteer shifts at βFree Bikes 4 Kidzβ in Detroit.
Awesome organization cleaning and restoring thousands of bikes for new homes. They make it super easy to show up and help out. Canβt recommend it enough.

RenCen is a Detroit icon. Iβm excited to see this plan to preserve some of the towers, redevelop with added housing, expand the river walk park area, and add new connected commercial space and amenities.

Redistrict tweet: Trump had one job in the final days: talk about the economy/border and tie Harris to Biden. And we're really talking about Puerto Rico and water fluoridation?
Itβs of no political moment, but it still rankles me that the case in chief against Biden is essentially that he prioritized full employment post-pandemic, and despite low joblessness, inflation, gas prices, and border crossings headed into election day, his record is still dubious because of vibes.
Project BlueSky is an EIA initiative to develop a next generation energy systems model.

Infographic comparing big ass pickup truck (with photoshopped Saudi Arabia flag and USSR emblem) to cheap ass bicycle (with photoshopped American flag). WOKE transit vs PATRIOT transit The truck: Needs license/registration so the government can track you Government regularly inspects it to legally drive Legally forces you to pay Insurance so they can pay for other people's accidents Fuel needs big government subsidies to stay under $5/gallon Government can revoke privilege to drive anytime The bike: Not required to register No inspection requirement Bike insurance optional. Not required No need for government subsidies Biking privilege cannot be revoked

NYT Daily team does it again. Transcendent storytelling in this interview with Ronen Bergman. A grim compelling history of Israel Palestine.

Cool tool and even cooler commitment to modeling transparency.
I didnβt really discover him until he passed. Been on a bender ever since. RIP
Am I missing something? Wouldnβt this be much more efficient if it were a ground source system?
Am I missing something? Wouldnβt this be much more efficient if it were a ground source system?
Am I missing something? Wouldnβt this be much more efficient if it were a ground source system?
Any advantages to an air source system of this scale? I would expect ground source to be much more efficient.
Are there advantages to a large air source heat pump like this?
I would expect ground source to be more efficient and cost effective at this scale.

Coolest looking heat pump ever? This article left me with more questions than answers. Found a bit more info in the press release.

Unsurprisingly, @ucenergyinstitute.bsky.social has a great blog on this.

This table from 2022 shows 34 TWh of thermal/unspecified imports vs 50 TWh of low carbon imports.
The amount of thermal imports surprises me. Maybe some is leakage from the CARB ETS?

Question for ππ‘ why does California import ~1/3 of its electricity and run its gas fleet at 25% capacity.
Are CA emission prices high enough to reduce local gas dispatch in favor of imports?
Any good analysis out there on gas capacity factors in CA?
This photo and the frame edit look amazing!
SunZia exemplifies how hard it is to build big new power lines in America β how long it takes, how expensive it can be, how bad that is for the planet & how urgently Congress needs to do something about it. Conceived in 2006, the project is now old enough to vote. ππ‘
