That being said, however, the BBC production team were very enthusiastic, the bosses and board, less so because they’ve been ingrained that Stenders > established musical contest. Therefore less willing to release the spends needed.

You also need to remember that YLE and BBC are completely different beasts with totally different priorities. In Finland this is a huge tv event in itself. The BBC has a gamillion other televisual priorities under its rules and charters and PSB fulfilments. You’re not comparing apples with apples.
