It puzzles me why people give them up, but hey ho! It makes my day a little brighter when I find them.

The last few minutes of the setting sun shining on these trees was glorious to see.
A couple of nice finds today. Just ยฃ2 each for the superb Reptile, and the not quite so superb Horror. Finding a lot of second-hand Hammer blu rays lately. Almost 20 in a few months, so I'm rapidly building a reserve collection.
Affable company, nostalgia and tea & biccies! Best TV hour of the week.
Hunchback of the Morgue. 1973. Love is never easy. Harder if you're a hunchback and she's dead. Gloriously tasteless and utterly barking Naschy gem.

More Frankenstein than hunchback, it's another typical, convoluted, throw everything in the mix Naschy movie. You could never accuse the man of short-changing the audience. However, the scene with the rats is intolerable.
A grey and rainy day here in Lancaster, but that doesn't deter this particular bargain hunter. Had a tip-off about a couple of Hammer movies on blu ray and a complete Ghosts boxset. (Hopefully the UK version and not the worse than terrible US remake.)
The Curse of the Crying Woman. 1961. Classic Mexican folk horror that piles on the nightmarish imagery with beautifully ghoulish gusto. Quite outstanding.

Italy had Bava, Spain had Naschy, and we in the UK had Hammer, but Mexico has been unfairly overlooked. This is a genuinely creepy and atmospheric movie. Not everything came close to this, but when they got it right, they sure as hell got it right.
Well, they did underpay me for one evening shift, so I think that makes us just about even.๐
I didn't know they were still going. There's just something evocatively 1950s about them.
Still sounds like a great thing to experience. It automatically brings to mind big cars, leather jackets and... er... Olivia Newton John for some reason ๐
Don't grass on me! I have enough guilt thinking that half-inching a nearly worn out tape is what drove Blockbusters into administration ๐
To a Brit like me, a Drive-in sounds incredibly cool!
Imagine Creature from the Black Lagoon on Viagra. Add blood, bosoms and Doug McClure. Bingo. A joyously tasteless riot of randy creature carnage. 1980

I didn't think I'd seen this though it looks and sounds familiar. Reading other comments, I recognise it now as the joyously rubbish 'Humanoids from the Deep'. When I left my summer job at Blockbusters, I pinched a VHS copy of this as a treat to myself. It's too late to come after me now... I hope๐
It must have been great to work there at its height. A busy, but friendly family atmosphere.
Morning chum. Have a good one.
Hammers third Egyptian avenger might not hit classic but it delivers the scares with gruesome flair and the final reel is fantastic. And Ripper's a riot. 1967.

Great entertainment. It's a pity Director John Gilling didn't do more work for Hammer. I love his visual style and the performances he managed to get from his actors, especially in this movie from Micheal Ripper. (The scene when he finds his broken spectacles breaks my heart every time.)
Was he in that?
Maybe 'The Mummy's Shroud' in third?
I paid full price for my original copy, but for ยฃ3 I wasn't going to turn down a reserve. There's a lot of Hammer movies turning up on the second-hand market lately.
Today's bargain find. One of my favourites. A very creepy atmosphere, and arguably Micheal Ripper's best performance in a Hammer movie.
It may be a case of smoke and mirrors but its haunted house horrors hit a real nerve and Brolin is knockout. Slick and devilishly slow burning chills. 1979.

One of the landmark movies of the 70s. It's loud and exaggerated, but for those of us who lived through that decade, it now has an almost aching sense of nostalgia which makes us forgive its faults.
Spirited William Castle spookshow sees The Wicked Witch of the West presiding over a household of ghouls. And shot in Illusion-O. Nostalgia nailed. 1960.

For once, a Castle gimmick that actually improves your viewing experience. This must have been an absolute hoot to see at the cinema. And a very decent remake too.
Have a nice break, Emm.
