At the Edge of the Woods illustrates a young girl stepping toward โmodernity,โ much like Bannerman herself. The โedgeโ isnโt an endpoint, but an invitation.

Born in Halifax, Frances Jones Bannerman was a passionate artist drawn to light, atmosphere, and nature. She embraced Impressionist techniques in Paris, becoming a pioneer of Canadaโs โNew Painting.โ She passed away on October 6, 1913, but her innovative approach to light and form lives on.

Alan Syliboyโs Butterfly is more than a beautiful image โ it carries Miโkmaq symbols of life, movement, and spiritual connection.
Did you know that in August 2013, he recreated this mural on a much larger scale at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport?
