This one causes me quite a bit of pain. Demolished in just 2024 and located right near the grand Central Manufacturing District. Now it’s a metal shed where they put a painted (with somewhat questionable proportions) the building they just demolished

Ah yes, impeding on freedom of speech by helping people attend an event whose purpose is for people to use freedom of speech to give feedback on their plans.

Also, there is no 50 on the map, which implies that either Alaska or Hawaii is the most mountainous? I’d believe that

Marquette Road outlined in red, randomly traveling one block N from 67th to 66th at Eberhart Ave
With this bit of Chicago street trivia, I’m wondering if you know any information about these street naming anomalies I’ve noticed.
Is Cityfront Plaza Drive the only street in the city to not have a directional indicator?
Why does Marquette Rd randomly switch from 66th to 67th at Eberhart?

If they want to call if “redefine” the drive, then they need to actually redefine it instead of reinforcing it as a highway

I mean, just look at the Aldi just down the street next to the 606. I’d love if it was something more like this, at least get rid for the parking lots facing Milwaukee Ave

Ship in a small pile dirt from somewhere and dump it on a ground. Then get a bunch of important looking people wearing suits and hard hats and take a photo shoot of them holding shovels
These groundbreaking ceremonies have always felt so cheesy to me. I want to see an excavator pierce the ground.

Excited to get a Trader Joe’s here, but I had been hoping to see these parking lots disappear for a while

A new build SRO would be able to provide a sanitary and safe affordable living situation to someone who may otherwise need to resort to living on the streets. They are an essential element in providing a comprehensive affordable housing supply, if only they were still legal to build today.

I understand the living conditions of SROs can be quite poor, but that is often because they have been illegal to build for decades, meaning remaining SROs that still exist are in buildings which have been long grandfathered in and have lacked in investment, resulting in poor housing conditions

On the topic of a SRO building, I really want to see the construction of new SRO housing legalized. It is an important form of affordable housing, often being the entity that prevents someone from needing to live on the streets.

Where was the meeting communicated or announced? I was subscribed to the West Central Association’s development meeting notifications and reliably attended all the virtual meetings, but I’ve never previously been aware of West Loop Community Organization.

Or if your phone runs out of battery, how do you get inside. I’ve had hotels where the key is only on the phone, there is no digital key, and it can get nerve wrecking when your battery starts to get low

Plan for a 26 floor hotel just down the street from the Obama presidential center
First phase of a plan by a local church to build a large residential building neighboring the 63rd street Metra electric station
Master plan of the church’s planned developments
With the Obama Presidential Center being built, the neighborhood has seen an additional boom in development. There are plans to construct a 26 floor hotel tower and a church is planning a series large of developments on their property. Who knows what Woodlawn may look like in 10 years time

However, recently the neighborhood’s been seeing accelerating development and is now one of the quickest growing neighborhoods in the city. Today, the neighborhood is very much “in transition”, with numerous new homes sitting alongside large empty lots.

Woodlawn’s quite an interesting neighborhood. While the neighborhood had historically suffered from disinvestment, the neighborhood’s proximity to the University of Chicago has granted northeastern side of the neighborhood some amount of life.

I’ll raise 62nd at Ingleside in Woodlawn. While it could definitely use a refresh, it is undoubtedly a pedestrian street

What about Japan? Or Spain? Or France? Taiwan? There are plenty of other countries out there with good High Speed Rail. We don't need to be China to have High Speed Rail

I mean, look at this. raised crosswalks, curb bumpouts, pedestrian refuge islands, and the bike lanes even go up on the curb at the intersection, yet immediately after the intersection, it switches right to door zone painted bike lanes. It is infuriating because they are so close to getting it!
