A new build SRO would be able to provide a sanitary and safe affordable living situation to someone who may otherwise need to resort to living on the streets. They are an essential element in providing a comprehensive affordable housing supply, if only they were still legal to build today.
I understand the living conditions of SROs can be quite poor, but that is often because they have been illegal to build for decades, meaning remaining SROs that still exist are in buildings which have been long grandfathered in and have lacked in investment, resulting in poor housing conditions
On the topic of a SRO building, I really want to see the construction of new SRO housing legalized. It is an important form of affordable housing, often being the entity that prevents someone from needing to live on the streets.
I absolutely love it. Keep on pushing and fighting, this really could promise to be transformative for the state
Where was the meeting communicated or announced? I was subscribed to the West Central Association’s development meeting notifications and reliably attended all the virtual meetings, but I’ve never previously been aware of West Loop Community Organization.

With the Obama Presidential Center being built, the neighborhood has seen an additional boom in development. There are plans to construct a 26 floor hotel tower and a church is planning a series large of developments on their property. Who knows what Woodlawn may look like in 10 years time
However, recently the neighborhood’s been seeing accelerating development and is now one of the quickest growing neighborhoods in the city. Today, the neighborhood is very much “in transition”, with numerous new homes sitting alongside large empty lots.
Woodlawn’s quite an interesting neighborhood. While the neighborhood had historically suffered from disinvestment, the neighborhood’s proximity to the University of Chicago has granted northeastern side of the neighborhood some amount of life.
I’ll raise 62nd at Ingleside in Woodlawn. While it could definitely use a refresh, it is undoubtedly a pedestrian street
What about Japan? Or Spain? Or France? Taiwan? There are plenty of other countries out there with good High Speed Rail. We don't need to be China to have High Speed Rail
I mean, look at this. raised crosswalks, curb bumpouts, pedestrian refuge islands, and the bike lanes even go up on the curb at the intersection, yet immediately after the intersection, it switches right to door zone painted bike lanes. It is infuriating because they are so close to getting it!
