This one is a favorite of mine. The whole Wax and Wayne series is just so fun
did not make me feel good and it became my default. i'm not ignoring those things now but i am choosing how i interact with them (for my own mental health) and share them (possibly for yours).
All this to say:
1. i'm doing a lot of silly posts right now because i'm trying to work on my brain (4/?)
Definitely feels like an unusual step--there are some cultural touchstones even that are still just on the BYU speeches site.
Everything by Sanderson is great. (And he is a practicing Christian, so his takes on religion are well-informed, which I appreciate.) I liked Will of the Many, too
I was impressed by Tron: Ares, it's streaming as of recently
I think there is a difference between receiving the recorded *text* of a vision and the vision itself--like Nephi hearing Lehi's recounting of the tree of life vs seeing it himself. The Spirit *can* bridge that gap, but doesn't always.
During our lives there will be times when the sun may go down on our hopes and dreams. The sun may go down when we experience loss or physical and emotional challenges. But because Jesus Christ came to earth and rose on the third day, triumphant over sin and death, there will be no permanent darkness at the going down of the sun. We can seek and find His life-giving light. President Susan H. Porter
As we embrace the joy of daily repentance, we will discover that the blessings of Christmas and the miracle of His gift can be ours continually. President Timothy L. Farnes
Merry Christmas from our Father in Heaven who never flags nor fails, and from His Only Begotten Son, His babyβthis baby and our Brotherβwho grew up to "[bear] our griefs, [carry] our sorrows: [and be] bruised for our iniquities." We thank our Father in Heaven for the promised Messiah, the greatest gift of all at Christmas. President Jeffrey R. Holland
Opportunities await each of us this Christmas season to reach out and show kindness with Christlike love and compassion and to make a difference. I promise as we are prayerful and as we open our hearts and minds to the whisperings of the Holy Ghost, the Lord will direct us to find someone that He loves perfectly, who needs our kindness during this holiday season. The kindness we offer may be simple and not seem extraordinary in any way, but it canβand many times willβhave an enduring effect. President Henry B. Eyring
The devotional messages tonight pointed us back to the Savior, His light that overcomes darkness, His gift that blesses us daily, and His love that moves us to lift others.
I am playing Hollow Knight now (for the first time), and explored like half the map without the benefit of a key item. After one too many failed tries against the Watcher Knight boss, I went online and checked a guide and put together that I was missing an entire sequence of key items
The first time I played through Ocarina of Time, I cleared the game without the blue tunic--I didn't figure out I could get the tunic for free by unfreezing King Zora, so I spent the whole Water Temple coming up for air every ten seconds (not as difficult as you might imagine, just annoying)
I'm a proud enough gamer to disdain looking up guides but not quite attentive/thorough enough to catch everything and that often gets me into trouble in games like Hollow Knight
Ho servito nella missione di Milano, e da allora in poi ho accolto ogni occasione per non dimenticare l'italiano! E quindi non posso mai chiedere a qualcun'altro di fare qualcosa col mio telefono π
Top 5 most listened songs from Spotify, all of which are KPop Demon Hunters. Soda Pop, then Golden, then How It's Done, then Takedown, then Free
We don't have an Alexa but my wife said yes to the kids a lot of times
Grouped problem, general problem, full problem
My wife who is not much of a gamer unironically loves this one: youtu.be/J064J7yM31I?... (and so do the kids)
Yβall these genzplyr PRs are off the hook: github.com/hadley/genzp...
Just submitted my first first-author manuscript to a journal!
And printed two posters, so a pretty productive day.
I know it's far from the end of the publishing process, but there's still so much relief in hitting this milestone.
With #GenConf today I got a lot of reminders to do what I can in helping everyone around me feel loved and needed--we are all God's beloved children, and the more we each reach out, the more we will feel His love for those around us.
where Christians in general were referred to by their contemporaries as saints.

So I think of it as meaning that we are disciples Jesus Christ, as were those who followed His message when taught by the early apostles.
The Church's style guide for journalism is pertinent:

which says that "Latter Day Saints" is one accurate term for members. Our Guide to the Scriptures on the topic points to e.g. Acts 9 and Romans 1
I was thinking specifically of the end to accepting and using the title "Mormon" for ourselves, but yes
Worth pointing out, perhaps, that we have spent the last 7 years trying to remind everyone that we are the Church *of Jesus Christ* of Latter Day Saints, not the Mormons
It's been two months since I returned to the US, and a month since we got good and settled back in Lafayette, IN. But I'm still reflecting on what I learned from my #Fulbright experience in Torino, and probably will be for a while: ickaser.notion.site/Wheelers-in-...
Lafayette, IN is surprisingly good. Not the most visually pleasing but checks all the boxes for me
A small (~5cm) plastic model of the drinking fountains found throughout Torino, Italy, which feature a bull's head
No souvenir trinket has ever resonated with me as powerfully as did this little present from my wife.
I thought it was a learned trait, but apparently the back seats of the bus are so innately cool that even my 4-year-old who has never been to school always wants to sit there.
(Having just shattered the glass vials containing the sugar and knowing there were probably bits of glass helped to deter me. But the temptation to just pop it in my mouth instead of the trash was real.)
A 2cm half-circle of freeze-dried sugar, in my gloved hand
It always seemed to me a little obvious, or maybe even silly, how my lab safety courses carefully specified that you should never ingest any sample.
Today, handling samples of freeze-died sucrose--table sugar--I understood why those warnings had been so clear and unequivocal.
I carried the (subsequent?) horse facts for around a decade before handing it to my child when we desperately needed something to distract him
