Actually, that's not quite true! About half a million years ago, our ancestors were asked what language they'd like to speak today and many replied just speaking would be fine. And here we are.

I think the conscious self likes to feel it knows what's going on, but maybe it's only a very strong tendency. Maybe experiences simply can't appear to be incompatible with themselves at the centre of our attention, but who really cares around the edges?

"Those who suffer under existing institutions should be especially motivated to think hard about the reform of those institutions and the cultural presuppositions that undergird them." This fits with standpoint theory (and who came up with that?): marginalized people may have the sharper critiques.

Philosophy Should Be Among the Most Diverse Disciplines, Not the Least
The productive engine of philosophy depends on novelty and difference. A fair and flourishing discipline would treasure rather than repel those who have historically been excluded.

4. I think that it is important that critics of LLMs get this. The 'LLMs are useless which is terrible and everyone is using them which is also terrible' shtick contained contradictions even in the beginning, which took a lot of work to maintain . Now it contradicts people's lived experiences.

Sometimes you see papers that make you think, β€œI wish I had written this paper”. How do people deal with this?

Wading into the water beyond diagnosis (hoping not to get splashed), aren't brains inherently diverse, like the rest of our bodies? There may be no definitive way in which anger, or anything else, is "manageable", except relative to internal/external conditions? But hard to inspect internal ones.

Meanwhile, refugee family reunion continues to be paused, the Afghan schemes have been shut, and only 537 people came through the UK's flagship resettlement scheme last year.

Emissions from Australia's biggest data centre operator are *definitely* growing. Airtrunk is the worst but everyone's on the way up. This isn't projections and possibilities, anymore.

What if the use of psychoactive substances, particularly alcohol consumption, had been a factor in the rise of socio-political complexity throughout human history?

Addressing this question is not easy, but it is worth trying πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

Scientists discover psychedelic drug 5-MeO-DMT induces a state of β€œparadoxical wake” A new study in Communications Biology provides evidence that a psychedelic drug induces a hybrid sleep-wake state in active mice. This unusual brain activity suggests a potential mechanism for how psychedelics might help remodel neural connections.
