Correction. Orwell never said this. He did however, warn that: "political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.β (That's Politics and the English Language, one of my favorite essays)

For those at home unfamiliar with the 2006 election
31 seat swing in the House
5 seat swing in the Senate
And that preceded 2008
21 additional seats for Dems in the House
8 additional seats for Dems in the Senate
And we are seeing a similar version of this in the United States right now.
Research by @chenoweth.bsky.social and the Crowd Counting Consortium suggests that the perception of democratic threat, from Trump's power grabs and ICE, have played a critical role in motivating a mass resistance movement
Trump approval declined among every category grouping shown.
Well said.
BREAKING: A federal court rejects a meritless effort by partisan actors in Utah to put a gerrymandered congressional map back in place. The court protects our clients' victory and solidifies that a fair, legal map must be implemented for the midterms.

It looks more and more likely that Utah will have a fair congressional map for the 2026 Midterms. Thanks to all who made this happen and who will keep fighting for fair representation.
Youβd think when we are nearing Bush II post Katrina/Iraq approvals which is worse than even Biden had and just a nightmare with Indies there would be some serious journalists doing serious articles on the multiple polls showing 60%+ disapproval just in the last 24hrs
Those are catastrophic approval ratings indeed.
Finally, SCOTUS reaffirms what we've known all along, Trump's tariffs are an unconstitutional tax on the American people.
Over the last year, working people paid an average of $1,000 more because of these tariffs. And Trump has no plan to put that money back in your wallet.

Thousands of institutions abandoned programs, ended or rewrote scholarships, closed down clubs and publications, all in pre-emptive compliance.
And you know why?
Mostly because they wanted to do it if they thought they could blame someone else for it.

My favorite 2025 election maps document the dramatic surprise upset of an increasingly embattled 2-time incumbent mayor by a moderate reform candidate here in Provo, Utah's 4th largest city. A mudslide in SE Provo after the primary + other factors helped swing the vote +5 pts against the incumbent.
