A6 By allowing choice in the spectrum of assessment design. Whether itβs a traffic light or 2 lane approach orβ¦ and these should be overarching with integrity in mind. Moderation & standardisation should be mandatory for reliability.
A6 #lthechat
Look at the workforce trends incl research practices
Most will need to know how to use it appropriately, ethically etc if they do want to.
Some students and staff do not agree with its use so it has to be considered optionally from both sides?

Q6: How can institutions ensure that educators retain autonomy in deciding how GenAI fits (or does not fit) within their pedagogical practice?
Reply with A6 #LTHEChat and your response
A5 have different groups in the same class use the same prompts on a fairly knowledgeable answer but using different GenAI tools...and critically review and compare...to identify the differences. My colleague partnered with academic staff to do just that. Very effective #lthechat
Q5 What opportunities can we create for students to make informed choices about when and how to use GenAI in ways that support, rather than replace, their learning?

A4 By engaging students in applied projects with clients - local businesses, charities, communities - where they can make a positive difference and work with peers in teams to do this. #LTHEchat
A4: I saw an assessment recently that had students analyse their social media algorithms and evaluate their impact. I think itβs a great way to get into their context whilst also bringing ethical issues to light. #LTHEchat
A4. Not sure I've understood but I imagine providing case studies, discussion points that are relevant to them and the workplace rather than abstract concepts. That's what I've tried to do in the forthcoming rework of the "literature review" activity next week. Give it an applied focus.

Q4 How do we connect learning to the real social, personal and professional contexts students inhabit?

A3 helping them to use it appropriately and ethically and understand it's limitations.
It's a very useful tool to help understanding, paraphrase, summarise etcbut we want to somehow "hear the students own voice and opinions" through their response, even if that response may be clumsy.

Q3 In what way(s) can our everyday interactions between educators and students foster trust rather than anxiety in how students approach GenAI?
Reply with A3 #LTHEChat and your response
Yes and to be inclusive we should be giving questions in advance?
A2 what do you mean by "secure"...free from Gen AI use?
Probably an observation on practice with dialogue afterwards to explore reasons for use of particular teaching strategies.
Written questions are quite easy to respond to using AI tools

Q2 What does a valid and secure assessment look like in your area of interest right now?
Reply with A2 #LTHEChat and your response
I'm actually using it as a bit of action research... I've hopefully taken it from reading to application. Am getting feedback and will be looking at final assignments for more depth of evidence of applying these articles to own practice and identity development #lthechat
I've had to rethink that approach to my teaching next week. Previously have used a jigsaw approach to divide up the reading of articles and teach one another the key points so that they all get to hear the approaches. But Gen AI can do that very nicely. So activity rethought! #lthechat
A1 for educators reflecting on practice (my teachers) it reinforces the value of very personal and often emotive critical reflection of whether practice was effective and using an evidence base.
Gen AI seems to give a very "sanitised" version of events with "hype speak" #lthechat
Q1 How does GenAI prompt us to re-examine what βvalued forms of knowledgeβ look like in areas you teach or support students in?

Thanks for questions and blog post
A6 I have had some wonderful student comments thanking me for my personalised approach to teaching and assessment feedback.
A sense of mattering with colleagues exists but feels diminished through flexible working arrangements & worry about job security #lthechat
Do you feel that you matter to students and colleagues? What makes you feel that way?

A5 using a platform that is accessible and inclusive for all to engage.
From a VLE perspective you can have
Discussion boards for introductions..(you model, respond and encourage)
Asynchronous opportunities to enable all to participate.
Enabling contributions to eg page content

A4 there's a lot of research in this invisible, pastoral work that often female staff take on, often agreeing to take it on but then having negative impact on promotion.

I wonder who students would like to encourage them in mattering/belonging.

Is the work of belonging/mattering gendered? Who does the work of caring for students? Who do students want to do the mattering and caring roles?

Can you give an example of the difference please Peter...

In a desire to address the increasing student numbers in things like enrolment and dealing with queries and going for "efficiency" you can lose the personalisation. It's happening across a range of sectors and in society.
When students get to speak to a person, they do a fab job.
