Yes! Thich Quang Duc chanted the nembutsu throughout his immolation. He sacrificed himself in the bodhisattva spirit for the sake of others. Many others in Vietnam, Tibet, the USA, and elsewhere have followed his example. Only advanced bodhisattvas should conduct such practices, however.
