Maybe people will wake up to the fact that the AI push has been about paying workers even less and taking away job security.
Less "prompt engineering" and more labor organizing.

I've said this elsewhere, but women don't need to literally stop having sex with men en masse for us to be treated like we're on a collective sex strike. The potential for us to keep being more autonomous and exercise alternative options is being treated just like one, and invites backlash.

Not to be THAT feminist, but I knew this was the case before opening the article. Men see fatherhood as an abstract milestone that's a proof of their virility, women see the associated costs.
Not to mention that women not being locked into domesticity is the core of the antifeminist backlash today.

Illustration of a shouting young man.
This house will become a shrine, and punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say, "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say, "Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!"

βHollywood understands anime/asian culture now!β
I just heard from someone at Disney that the success of KPop Demon Hunters sent the entire executive team into a βwe need demon hunting animeβ frenzy that lasted months
Yes, they STILL think itβs anime

I've been listening to an audiobook about airships (zeppelins, dirigibles, or blimps, depending on locale), and how they NEVER really worked, but governments had invested so much in them that they were determined to MAKE them work, wasting fortunes & years & lives
This post is not about airships

I remember learning about the Hays Code in film school and how it made it so that any amoral protagonist had to meet karmic justice by the end of the film and going βwow, thatβs really sillyβ and then once a week I log online and see people argue that we need stuff like that now or itβs problematic

Itβs a bit of a nerdy obsession for me that while fashions change, the aesthetic fundamentals are hard wired into us, and nowhere is this more visible than the archaeological record.
Humans like patterns, repetition, scale relationships, symmetry, colour balance, handles and squiggly shapes.

Patrick Nagel-style artwork of a very 80's-looking businesswoman checking her watch while holding a briefcase, next to an ad for Bob Evans' "Beat the Clock" deal
Not gonna lie, this 1991 ad using Nagel-style art to hawk Bob Evans Restaurants is deeply unsettling yet oddly comforting

H.R. 7661 would harm so many publishers, authors, and readers. Only the smallest sliver of human experience would make it onto shelves. If you think kids deserve the world, you are against this bill - please read this article and call your reps.

And what we white Americans love nearly as much as we do Buffalo Wild Wings and our own asses as white as hardboiled eggs is a white redemption story. Itβs our national narrative after all. White people did bad things long ago but white people fixed those things. Weβre all better now.

Platner is a white guy whoβs really good at being white and itβs impressed a lot of white people who are kind of dimwitted oafs but they have college degrees and they are paid to have opinions and well theyβve got vocabulary but theyβre stupid as rocks and that comes with being a white American.

Judge Rules Columbia's Expulsions of Pro-Palestine Protesters Were Illegal
The judge tossed out Columbiaβs disciplinary actions against 22 students accused of occupying Hamilton Hall in 2024.
A New York judge has tossed out Columbia University's unprecedentedly harsh discipline against students accused of occupying Hamilton Hall during the 2024 Gaza protests, calling it arbitrary and capricious:

Minneapolis cartoonist Steve Sack has been on a roll lately.
He's been on the front lines of the ICE invasion and his cartoons are boiling with rage at ICE and Mad Emperor Piggy. Well worth checking out his Substack.

Idk I just think it sucks that this one blessed miracle of a human life means you're basically held at gunpoint in one little place your whole life on this big beautiful blessed miracle of a planet cuz that's the place where you were born, or not, depending on the government of where u are now

A tiny little armpit of a country in the middle of an otherwise lovely little island: Hey what if we spend everyone's money for generations on imperialism & austerity, which are both very costly to do and both simply wreck the global climate as well
Also England: Bad news u lot we have no food

tenchi masaki from tenchi muyo dressed in a grey schoolgirl uniform walks through a scifi scanner thingie
a computer screen showing his skeleton and a DNA strand, captioned dialog reads "everything looks okay"
the space cop or whatever says "but did you know your frame is very masculine?"
tenchi says "uh, i... have a father who's a man"
it's a pleasant surprise if you find a crossdressing character in a 90s anime and the joke being told is funny

screenshot of patreon's payouts page
reminder when you're doing your taxes, the number patreon is putting on your 1099 is the gross and they DO NOT exclude all the money they took from you in fees. you need to deduct that yourself as business expenses. an easy ("easy") way to do that is to download your earnings by month
