The Reading Deficit β what can we do about it?
The good news is that 74% of pupils met the expected standard in reading in 2024.
The BAD news is that about a quarter did not.

It was fantastic to complete the βTalk Through Storiesβ training with Lacey Green English Hub and Nick Cannon from Ruth Miskin Training. The programme helps to bring stories to life through talk. It specifically and systematically builds their vocabulary and comprehension. π talkthroughstories.com
We have gone digital and started using Pageticker in school. β Pageticker makes the logging and tracking of reading progress much easier for teachers and parents alike. It provides important insights to help accelerate progress and to identify interventions required. @pageticker.bsky.social

Iβve asked TS if thereβs βCPD budgetβ to order a copy for school.
I ordered Finnβs Little Fibs and Beaβs Bad Day from Amazon as got the rest (5 for Β£15) from Scholastic. Bargain! Also, I found some amazing bargains in Waterstones last week at Β£3 per book! I try to support local though too.
We have to keep our ID and fobs on separate lanyards for security. I have no idea where either of them are but I can guarantee you they wonβt be in the same place! π€¦π»ββοΈ

Iβve had quite a few supply agencies contact me. I donβt think itβs worth it in my role but it was great for networking when I was in the leisure industry.
I admit that I shed a tear or two at the end. πͺπ«‘
I left Twitter 24 hours ago. It was full of hate, lies and bots. I have already found @bsky.app to be far superior. Just hoping that everybody else education-wise follows suit.
There are currently no providers, local to Warrington that offer the Teacher degree apprenticeship route. Alternative routes into teaching can be found here: getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/train-to-be-...
A fantastic #picturebook by my lecturer from MMU, Yasemin Allsop. A truly important message to inspire and educate children.
Looks brilliant Yasemin. π³β»οΈ π
Would love to know what youβve decided to do. RWI say that most of the objectives are taught through phonics and get writing but we felt this wasnβt enough. We also didnβt want children spelling words that they cannot read yet.
If it's helpful to schools and teachers, below is the link to a year's worth of picturebook assembly suggestions that have a focus on empathy, diversity, equality and inclusion. They're all books I've used and loved. #edusky padlet.com/Jon_Biddle/r...
Ocean Meets Sky is a fabulous text. My class particularly enjoyed The Dragon Machine and writing the letters of advice π.
