My hunch is that training will only go so far, & that interaction design will play a bigger role in shaping how these techs will be used (or abused). If we give people Q&A systems theyβll ask questions. If we give treatment selection systems, maybe people will use them to inform treatment choice.
I am recruiting a postdoc! The research emphasis is participatory design for decision-making interfaces. Check out the two project descriptions on my website. people.cs.uchicago.edu/~kalea/prosp...

So many opportunities in the health space for responsible, human-centered applications of data science and AI. Itβs exciting to work in the area, but also important to recognize the danger of move recklessly given pressure to go fast in a high-stakes domain with many challenges.
2. A full third of the leadership team included visualization in their list of responsibilities.
3. Modern hospitals produce a LOT of data. I knew this, but itβs even more than I recognized and the vast majority is essentially ignored.
1. The scramble to gather and integrate data in response to COVID produced both an ecosystem and a culture for making data available that continues to make innovation faster and easier than pre-pandemic.
Rachini Moosavi talks during her CHIP Seminar Series presentation.
The Carolina Health Informatics Program was excited to host Rachini Moosavi, Chief Analytics Officer at UNC Health, as part of our speaker series. It was a great talk and highlighted a lot of interesting work to embed analytics across the health enterprise. A few smaller points also stuck with me:
I'm excited to see the recent uptick in bsky activity, especially within the #datavis community. It has started to feel like the "good old days" when social media was helpful for keeping up with the field. Have we reached a critical mass for the conversation to thrive? I hope so!
