DecodeME: The Results announcement post. The graphic has a blue background with a DNA helix. In the centre of the graphic it says βWe have released our initial DNA results! We have discovered that your genes contribute to your chances of developing ME/CFS.β At the bottom left of the graphic is an image of a research paper.
Our initial DNA results! DecodeME have discovered that people with an ME/CFS diagnosis have significant genetic differences compared to the general population.

I LOVE this tense scene on Murderbot, where lives quite literally depend on its ability to make small talkβ¦ really brings home how terrifying small talk is for some of us. π
congratulations!
eeep won a little prize - girl's still got it π₯³

As someone who mostly reads horror, I'll never understand the vitriol towards "cozy" books. People say they are escapist, unserious, allowing readers to avoid big issues. And I'm like, girl, WHEN did your dark romance book fix society? Did I BLINK and miss your detective thriller solving crime?
Finished the thing I wrote! AND put it out into the world - we are rolling again baby! π₯°π

painting of a man lying on a pile of books with the text "I don't have insomnia. I have a good book and no respect for tomorrow."
The truth:
ππ
Two photos. In the first, deep in a conifer forest a man in winter clothes holds a reindeer and sprays something from an aerosol can on the antlers. The second photo is of a small town street in the dead of night. Little shops and dim street lights. A deer stands in the middle of the road. It's barely visible, just a feint silhouette. But, its eyes and antlers glow like something ancient and supernatural.
To prevent deer from being hit by cars Finland has tried using reflective paint. (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/avoid-deer-strikes-finland-painting-deer-antlers-reflective-paint-180949792/)

#gardening Bluesky I need your best rosemary growing tips PLEASE - Iβm losing yet another plant: convinced Iβm under some kind of rosemary black thumb curse. One soaked to death in our English wet. One got some kind of spore. Now Iβve no idea whatβs wrong. Maybe a bad frost?? Help me! Please π
So I read this, and as someone who's spent their entire career in the trenches of "how do we keep the tension between Good Guys and Bad Guys interesting," I have Some Thoughts www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/v...
Iβm just going to leave this here; I keep losing it. And itβs my favourite.

I did it. And no, I am not unscathed
I dislike the idea of flash as just a shorter, short story beholden to all the rules & constraints of short stories. In that case, it becomes a trick of compression alone, a hurried up, stunted short story that caters to declining attention spans. If you write flash, is that what you're aiming for?
Start a big dumb project that's going to go nowhere. It's fun. It's pointless. It's like gambling with free lottery tickets. Any of this shit you just make up could become a bestseller. Give into the literary hysteria in 2025.
As of 26 minutes ago I am 35 years old. Tell me WHY I am feeling so weird about this birthday!? π«
Daniel Craig in Knives out, smoking a cigar, pondering. The subtitles read βCompels me though.β
Reading The Little Stranger, Sarah Waters.
Nothingβs really βhappeningβ in the traditional sense of the word, events are gently meandering along. Characters are neither likeable nor unlikeable, and not driving the story. Itβs not strongly emotive; closer to quietly unsettling. And yetβ¦
Don't, it snacks on your words when it gets bored
I'm prone to writing on the move and needing to sync everything. So I just cannot get past that it's not iCloud compatible. I've tried with Dropbox but I loath it. Truly. (Or it loathes me maybe?)
I love the sections in Scrivener though, you're right. They're amazing for hopping about
I've always been attached to Pages for the actual typing out of the words bit, but does everyone else find it super clunky for manuscripts (or is it a skills issue with just me)?
Any #writingcommunity folks recommend their favourite planning or writing platforms (preferably iCloud-compatible) ??? Scrivener and I are having another fight.
The first βworkingβ day of 2025 and our wifi has borked. Completely dead. Bereft of life. It rests in peace. It has run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. It is ex-wifi!
And I am not taking this as an omen of the year to come.
