I am so sorry. There's no perfect guide on how to balance helping someone you love through a difficult moment while also protecting yourself. I have been through similar with close friends. I hope you have been able to reaffirm your self-beliefs since then. You were just trying to get through it. ♡

It's a tough one. If you are also traumatised, having someone mistrust you and lash out when they misinterpret you or ascribe nasty motives to everything you do is really disorienting. Even knowing it's not intentional doesn't make it not painful, especially if you are at a weak point yourself.
