Tim Burton's Batman was pretty much all that anyone talked about in 1989, and not without good reason... but it's it still any good?

Hey look, it's Bart - and he's doing stuff! #totp
I think it was @whenisbirths.bsky.social who suggested how amusing it would be if MC Hammer sang “Here Comes The Hammer” and someone came and hit him with a big hammer #totp
Mike Edwards was kind of like the Chris Morris of pop in 1991. #totp
Doubt? by Jesus Jones really does rattle along. All those extreme (and in one-case avant-garde) sounds and it's as concise and coherent as a pop album. Remarkable. #totp
None of those breakers were especially good but they should have played them instead of Free and the sodding Clash. #totp
He didn't even do Rollin' In My 5.0??
Massive Attack are emblematic of one of #TOTP's biggest problems around this time - brilliant records were being made by bands who gave dull performances.
My brother worked at HMV and got us freebie tickets to see Vanilla Ice in Manchester just after Ice Ice Baby came out. I swear he played the song three times, did one other song and then that was that.
Given that the actual #totp clip of Free doing All Right Now was already being used in every clip show in existence, why didn't they just use that??
While this was in the charts I was introduced to someone who had just bought tickets to see Stevie B live. I refused to believe he had more than one song and I still refuse to believe that now. #totp
This is like The Clothes Show's idea of 'Rave'. #totp
It really is impossible now - especially as it just sounds ridiculous - to convey just how exciting it was to have a WHOLE NEW FOURTH CHANNEL in 1982, but as you can hear in this, I was so excited that I felt I had a duty to watch *all* of it...

I suspected as much.
It's just one of those photostatic mask things she has in Black Widow.
This should not have been under the Happy Mondays name. #totp
The joke always is that David Frost 'rose without trace', but I do wonder if that's exactly how he more or less invented television satire as we know it. A new face, new opinions and new jokes.
I've really never been quite sure why, but Northern Lites gets me right *there*. It probably *is* just about Aurora Borealis, but I don't know, it's like there's something deeper to it I just can't fit into a box. #totp
Something up your nose there, Geraldine? #totp
The woman I was dating at the time (who is on here - you know who you are!) took one look at Shania, switched off the TV and said 'I'm not having you looking at her instead of me'. #totp
I'm going to argue it's *better* if they're unknowns. Pretty much every topical satire show in the past two decades has been built around 'names' and hasn't worked. I don't think that's coincidence.

This is just Show Me The Way by The Goodies with less Oddie. #totp
New! It's Christmas 1981, and while everyone is waiting to see what the new Doctor Who is like, K9 has a spot of bother with the forces of darkness in contend with...

I often get asked why I go on about sixties jazz so much. This might give you some of the answers...

Ask The Family was a polite and highbrow early evening BBC quiz show, which also happened to have some of the weirdest theme music and title graphics ever attached to a television programme. This is why I am so obsessed with it...

I heavily suspect Damon Albarn's 'Lot 105' was the model of Hammond that found its way into a lot of front rooms.
