Snow and frigidly cold. Between the Levee and the River.
Magical foggy and damaged land along the Mississippi River- Industrial residues and consistent flooding- but also where animals are at home and ecological life sustains in spite of it all. In the American Bottom.

Venice, IL, the American Bottom.
Context is so important to my work. I've spent years creating and sharing images and historical and contemporary contexts about the American Bottom on Instagram. Preparing to leave that platform and wondering how to best share and continue.
Between the levee and the River- from my ongoing work, of many projects that overlap and intersect as I wander in the American Bottom landscape.

Remediation zone, Fairmont City, the American Bottom. Where a zinc processing plant operated in the small town for decades.
I photograph in a place called the American Bottom along the Mississippi River in Illinois. This landscape is complex and layered with overlapping, hidden histories- the cultural, social, and ecological erasures are deeply engrained and hard to see.
