It's so insane to me how all these big studio people want to cleave so hard to 'mass appeal' with no concept of how things get popular to begin with.

Maybe your market data doesn't show that gay characters are popular because you're terrified of allowing well-written gay characters to exist!

The grossest thing is that I'm pretty sure he's not implying that the movie would be *used* for therapy, but that the kids (and/or the parents) would *need* therapy after being exposed to a gay character.

I ask rhetorically, knowing that they think the existence of LGBTQ+ itself is harm because they get a lil ick when they think about them living their lives, and their own lives are prosperous enough that they can't tell the difference between discomfort and threat.

As someone in the query trenches, my experience is currently that agents are *REALLY* focused on lower wordcounts, which makes it difficult to have the sort of huge sprawling narrative epic fantasy requires.
