It wasn't until my first child was born and I'd get nods of approval from strangers at the grocery store or people coming up to me and say shit like "babysitting for mom today, huh?" that i realized the bar for straight men is so low you can step over it without trying.

New: As David Ellison prepares to take control of CNN, legendary CBS News producer Mary Walsh, who is exiting, sent a goodbye note to colleagues.

In the note, Walsh writes, "We’ve been told to aim our reporting at a particular part of the political spectrum. Honestly, I don’t know how to do that."

I made this point in class the other day. Until Congress changes the name, it's the Department of Defense. It's not hard.

Pete Hegseth can call it whatever he wants. Uncle Drunky's Funtown or the He-Man Warfighters Secret Clubhouse or whatever. No one else should feel the need to follow him.

Everything the Ellison family could own if Paramount buys Warner Bros:

Paramount+
CBS
CNN
Showtime
HBO
Warner Bros
TNT
TBS
MTV
DC Studios
Nickelodeon
Comedy Central
Cartoon Network
And more...

This is a rotten deal that the Trump regime has rubber stamped.

State AGs must step in and block it.

The recipient’s girlfriend: he doesn’t see their color anymore even though he still β€œHe’s a much better lover now. Of course, he was talks about it sometimes. He seems more comfortable and weaker before, but it’s not that. He’s like, I mean he just at ease with these black guys, but he’s not aware of it. And knows my body as well as I do. He wants to cuddle, hold, one more thing I should say: he’s driving me nuts with the and take a lot of time. Before he was a good lover, but not classical music. He doesn’t know the name of one song and like this. It’s just different. He wants to hug all the time never, never listened to it before. Now, he sits for hours and go shopping. My God, he never wanted to shop. And and listens to it. He even whistles classical music songs you know what, he carries a purse now. His purse! He that he could never know. How does he know them? You’d slings it over his shoulder and calls it his bag, but it’s a think he’d like rap music or something because of his purse. He hates it when I say that, but going to the mall black heart.” with him is like going with one of the girls. And one more thing, he loves to go to museums. He would never, absolutely never do that. Now he would go every week. Some-imes he stands for minutes and looks at a painting without talking. He loves landscapes and just stares. SometimeI just leave him there and come back later.”

sometimes i think about the paper (published in Integrative Medicine, 2002) that claims that a male recipient of a heart transplant became more feminine after a heart transplant from a woman

(i'm almost certainly convinced that this is a psycho-social thing driven by gender)

the Ellisons acquiring control of a huge portion of American media is a disaster and so many talented people are going to lose jobs and opportunities

they are also self-evidently far worse than the Murdochs at propaganda

New poll: Democrats' real problem isn't being too liberal β€” it's being seen as too weak Americans, including swing voters, see the Republican Party as 20 points more extreme than Democrats β€” and the Democrats as weak and ineffective. So why would the *Democrats* moderate?

this is good. underrated problem with popularism: it is--openly and explicitly--a pathetic, wimpy school of thought www.gelliottmorris.com/p/new-poll-d...

Given Trump’s public attacks on CNN and his clear preference for Paramount’s effort to acquire the entire company, including CNN, it’s reasonable to suspect that he helped tip the scales so an ally could wield influence over the network.

Warner Bros. repeatedly signaled that Netflix had won the bid and insisted they would not sell to Paramount. Yet, almost overnight, the narrative flipped: Paramount, not Netflix, was said to have secured the deal.

The only reason Paramount won the bid to purchase Warner Bros is because the Ellisons have a cozy relationship with Trump.

Americans Are Leaving the U.S. in Record Numbers More citizens are replanting overseas, drawn by a quality of life made easily affordable by the U.S.’s enviable salaries.

This is such a well done piece that reports out, with hard data and interviews, something profound about what's gone wrong in this country.

Mexico is a pretty conservative religious country, but a progressive movement has really taken off since 2018, and it has actually helped working-class folks. People really want it to keep going. I never thought Mexico would have a woman president before the United States.

I've sat through every one of these SOTUs since high school.

Between the racism, the lying, the incoherence, the time-wasting ramble, the pandering, the preening, and the performative sycophancy, I think I've had enough of this one.

In competitive authoritarianism (US right now) there's often a "loyal opposition" that's essential to the regime. They are so wedded to "decorum," they go along with rites & rituals that help regime prop up veneer of normalcy, undermining clear view of regimes actions & aims.
