Gotta say this is a very challenging geopolitical environment in which to keep one’s nervous system regulated.

Counterpoint: Limiting how US troops can be used illegally in unconstitutional wars of the president’s own choosing *IS* supporting “the troops.”
If this keeps up, threat of boycott of World Cup in US will become pretty serious: hard to get people to come to country that is destabilizing world with wars of stupidity AND is notoriously tossing visitors into concentration camps. Regardless, our tourist industry is smoked.
Wow. That is just sad.

huh, makes the whole 25 year period when the Shah was our top ally kind of awkward
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
the reverse version of those “evolution of man” drawings
Dude, put on a mask!
The media often treats Trump like some sort of Zelig-like character, a mere bystander in his own administration w/no agency or ability to shape decisions. It's really infuriating considering Biden and Obama were both expected to own everything going on in the country all the time.
You cannot do this to people and expect Iranian Delcy Rodriguez to emerge to make peace with you. She pulled it off only because the U.S. operation in Venezuela killed mostly security personnel (and indeed, mostly Cuban security personnel)
It’s gonna be Cuyahoga by the Cuyahoga on Tuesday night.
I’m sure Iranians will be very open to a leader chosen by the people responsible for this.

Never criticizing a political candidate or party no matter what they do or say so I can fight [checks notes] fascism.
Americans are not prepared for the reaping of what our government is sowing.
“MAGA’s fundamental shared quality is a total lack of theory of mind for other people” is a theory that keeps getting validated by reality - look at almost every decision they’ve made in the war with Iran, and how they seem constantly surprised by the unanticipated actions of other parties.
there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).
the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.
That Iranian Navy ship we torpedoed had no ammunition on board because that was a requirement to participate in the MILAN 2026 exercise (organized by the Indian Navy).
The US Navy knew this because IT ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE EXERCISE. What a national embarrassment.

For people who blather so much about Western Civilization and how they’re supposedly saving it, it’s like they’ve never heard of the canonical Ancient Greek concept of “hubris.”
In just six days we’ve gone from “Iranians take over your country” to “we’re open to talking with the new leadership of the regime” to “I want to pick the new leader” to now “unconditional surrender”.
A “concept of a plan”, indeed.

ELECTIONS Trump asks why US can't use nukes: MSNBC PUBLISHED WED, AUG 3 2016 8:05 AM EDT UPDATED WED, AUG 3 2016 3:01 PM EDT Matthew J. Belvedere @MATT_BELVEDERE WATCH LIVE VIDEO 1:20 Trump reportedly asks why US can't use nukes: MSNBC
Donald Trump asked a foreign policy expert advising him why the U.S. can't use nuclear weapons, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said on the air Wednesday, citing an unnamed source who claimed he had spoken with the GOP presidential nominee. "Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on the international level went to advise Donald Trump. And three times [Trump] asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked at one point if we had them why can't we use them," Scarborough said on his "Morning Joe" program.
I will just say it out loud:
I am very concerned Trump will use a tactical nuclear weapon in his quest for a quick victory over Iran.
I am reminded of the story from 2016, when Trump reportedly asked three times in a single briefing why nuclear weapons couldn’t be used:
Have there been any polls about the war released since it began? I keep seeing posts citing 21% support for war with Iran, but that poll was conducted a few days before the attacks started.
The long term political consequences of this war for Republicans give new meaning to the phrase “hoisted by his own petard”.
mr president, i think we’ve found a way to combine the iraq war with hurricane katrina
It's really unfair to compare this to Iraq in 2003, at least then they had the decency to put some effort into their lies and deception.

Trump needs to remember what his pal Mike Tyson once said: “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.”
