I also love seeing a master cartoonist using this much whiteout! It offers hope to us fumble-fingered journeymen cartoonists.

In 1942, as Block told it, he was getting chewed out by his NEA editor when word came that he won his first Pulitzer. I love that story and SO want it to be true!

Fun fact. In 1933, Herblock got his big break in Cleveland, with NEA Syndicate, which was part of the Scripps Newspapers empire. The office and comics bullpen was located across from the Cleveland Press (also Scripps) on E. 9th. Block lived on the East Side, not far where I do now!

ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. She’s married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.

They’ve already sent her to Louisiana.

‘Superman #1’ copy found in attic becomes most expensive comic ever sold | CNN A copy of the first ever issue of “Superman,” discovered in a Californian attic last year, has become the most expensive comic ever sold, fetching $9.12 million at auction.

The dream lives on, but no.

An electrician opened up an attic cavity yesterday, and I'm sorry to report that yet again no bags of old money were found.

The Mandalorian And Grogu sparks 'a completely different era of Star Wars' Dave Filoni and Pedro Pascal talk Star Wars' return to the big screen with a cinematic outing for Din Djarin and Grogu. Read more at Empire.

Yes, a "completely different" and far shittier Star Wars.

And the old Star Wars was godawful. There was really no where to go but up, but somehow Disney, being Disney, kicks through a hole in the floor and plunges ever downward.

I only care because of what A New Hope meant to me... 50 years ago!

All Clevelanders remember the legendary pee troughs at old Cleveland Stadium. They were covered in pathetically inadequate urinal cakes, whose only apparent function was to serve as something to aim for.

Our sewer rates in Cleveland are brutal, because previous generations let the ancient sewers crumble w/o putting a penny into them & now we have to clean up the, well, shit. Thanks grandma and grandpa.

But our sewer dept. is hilarious on social media.

Enjoy!

Bluesky now has 40M users. X has 600M. Figure 300M of those are bots. 100M more are various disinformation offices of nefarious governments (including ours). 150M are corporate marketeers trying to sell crap. That leaves 50M real people, all of whom bitch incessantly about Bluesky not being "real."

Everything has its time. The business changes, retail changes, mistakes are made. Plenty of publishers don't really deserve to survive. We also lose some that do, and those we mourn forever.

Comics has always been this way.

But Richardson was a visionary, right up there with the Image guys, Stan Lee or Jenette Kahn. Dark Horse books were always worth reading in the 1990s and Aughts. The guy knows what good comics are.

Dumb move by Dark Horse Inc.

Dark Horse was sold to a Swedish conglomerate, which is bankrolled by Saudi money. I assume Mike made out very well in that deal, and probably gets a sizeable golden parachute with his ouster. He also owns his creations The Mask and Timecop. So he's not hurting.

Founder Mike Richardson gets the ax at Dark Horse. Wow.

One of the most important comics people of the last decades of the 20th century. He blew the lid off creator rights, nurtured massive hits like Hellboy and Sin City and pumped out more quality titles than I can count.

Ugh.
