I tried a stint of permanent lates, nearly killed me! I think it helped me to appreciate the earlies and a bit of variety. I have found earlies easier the older I get too!
I’ve seen fewer issues on the Cologne-Brussels axis since the ICE3neo sets were introduced on the route
Some interesting railway news seen on LinkedIn, DB will operate one return trip from Cologne all the way to Ostend this summer, extending the Brussels service. An extension to Antwerp also on the cards, very interesting!
After a week or so off with the family, it’s nice to be back polishing the rails again, we’ve just passed Lille and we have still well over 200 kilometres to run to Paris on #ES9032, we’ll cover that distance in just under an hour today, with some speed limits post track replacement works.

An interesting two-part read about a journey out of the USSR to the UK before the iron curtain came down, from @railmagazine.bsky.social.

I love that we can connect such a wide range of places from Brussels, but I also love that from Justin’s post I have seen pictures of the route (that I’ve never travelled) and lots of people helping each other out in the comments.
It’s nice to be part of the good side of the internet
Berlin, Dresden and Prague in a eurostar arrival announcement. We don't just take you to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, we plug you into a much bigger network of travel possibilities including @europeansleeper.eu.

Welcome on board 9140 to Amsterdam if you're with us today. @tmblakeeurostar.bsky.social and I are with you as far as Brussels.
Prettige reis!
"Where is it?"
@tmblakeeurostar.bsky.social studies the map to see how our train from Amsterdam is doing as we wait to relieve our Dutch colleagues in Brussels. It was 10 mins late due to an issue near Roosendaal. The Brussels stop is booked for 18 minutes so a swift boarding caught up some time.
Time to go back to the island on the last train of the day from Amsterdam. It's 9167 with @tmblakeeurostar.bsky.social. We're taking over in Brussels.
Went up to 120 just before we left!
I would love to be off to Prague instead of back to London but I don’t think I’m qualified in Czechia 🇨🇿
We better get the screens changed sharpish!
😂
Good news folks, I shall be roaming the rails for another three years at least 🥳
Spare a thought for me today folks, my operating licence is coming up for renewal and as part of it I’ve got a tri-annual re-evaluation to get through. These are intense verbal examinations lasting up to 6 hours, covering every element of our operations.
Coffee has been consumed!
In full thunderbird mode today, ready to spring (optimistic) in to action today as the daytime cover….a slight worry earlier with some dodgy points near Calais but otherwise the railway under the sea is running well today.
Hope you’re all enjoying the brighter weather 🌦️
Got a full set of those, St Ives as shown, a Settle and Carlisle and one from the Heart of Wales
Been having some work done at home over the last year so my home office has been devoid of it’s railway poster wall.
Glad to get it back today and spend a few minutes choosing the posters to display for the next few months.
These two always entice me to travel, even 35 years later.
Why am I not surprised 😳

Didn’t even have first aid training there, but then again we were rarely more than 10 minutes from somewhere to stop and get help, although that was difficult when the driver was in the loco as no comms other than the bell/buzzer codes. Often considered learning morse code 😂
Always the best course of action! I remain better at trains than first aid…..
All Eurostar Train Managers are certified first aiders, we complete an extended recertification every three years to maintain our competence. We also call regularly on medical staff travelling on board who are always invaluable, with 900 passengers we can normally get a good team together.
Taking the time on my spare shift to do an expiry date check on my first aid kid, every TM has one. We have to be ready for a lot, as we can be a long way from help. We’ve got oxygen meters, stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, burn gels, bandages and so on. We also have defibrillators on board.
Starting the day with a visit to the neighbours.
Day three for me floating around in London, very bizarre to have a cover shift followed by a couple of spare turns, we nearly always pick up a shift.
Anyway plenty of admin has been done, the jobs you put off, and a few trains prepped too!
Looks like an early Stansted Express 322 in the background of the 86 shot too
Thanks to everyone on board for your patience, we had a 35 minute delay due to needing to make a stop in Calais Frethun to get someone off and get them assistance from an ambulance due to an urgent medical issue.

One of the bits where it could be English with an accent….
St Pancras looking pretty in pink this morning, starting off Sunday with ES9114 to Amsterdam. It’s a bit of an oddity as it doesn’t stop in Lille like most of the Low Countries trains do, makes it a bit easier for us with no intermediate stop to manage.
Good morning all! 🌅 🇬🇧 🇧🇪 🇳🇱
