So, I got a dead tree paperback copy of the Annotated King in Yellow, the paperback edition of the gorgeous limited edition Arc Dream Press put out in the late 2010s, I think. 100% worth getting, the annotations are v. useful and the design and typesetting is AMAZING

Tomorrow evening, going to grab a random book off my shelf and read that. No idea what I'll end up choosing or if I'll finish it. If all else fails, I'll just read the complete Borges collection (Hurley's translations).
Otherwise, slowly reading Katalepsis. I was not prepared for how long it is, as a series, so I guess I'll be reading it for the next foreseeable future around reading other stuff.
It's good. It's not at all like Bolaño's Nazi Literature in the Americas, but it engages with the same subject of like, the emotional draw. And for some reason reminded me strongly of Coldheart Canyon, which would be my next read if I had a Shabbesdik copy.
And Silver Nitrate explicitly engages, in a serious way, with the history of fascist occulture. Not as like, a spicy aesthetic detail but as a significant part of *some* strains of fascism, and especially the complex way it interweaves with Nazi ideology in specific.
Silver Nitrate is explicitly about what someone who's *not* already the top of the heap, but who has no access to the narrative of being robbed of a "rightful" high status, might see in fascism. What the temptations are for the rest of us. How it's the same shit, ultimately, even.
Here's something to proactively recommend the book: most books about the danger and temptation of fascism are about white straight dudes (Christian, unless you go spelunking for Jewish authors on purpose). And you know, many of those are like, good.
Silver Nitrate also achieved the rare effect of me randomly thinking of the story in the middle of something else entirely, including thinking about Tristán's need to be adored and envied while wandering around my hallway vaguely tidying.
Right afterwards, finished Silver Nitrate (Silvia Moreno-Garcia) in about two-three sittings. Very much enjoyed it, even if the prose style (purely aesthetically, not necessarily a useful way of looking at style) is generally not one I seek out.
