I was going by a different name then and tbh I'd rather leave the person I was in the 2010s behind.

Anyway, Emptiness Effigied and Unjust Depths both look really interesting and v. much like my kind of thing, so I'm glad to have been pointed to your work regardless :>

well, in a fun coincidence, i was literally just recommended Unjust Depths (on the strength of the themes it tackles) and then i found The Solstice War in the downloads section.

so i went to find your contact details and saw this post. so, uh, hi! we used to know each other, thoughβ€”

If you buy one of Gretchen Felker-Martin's books and/or sign up for her Patreon in the next 24 hours and reply to this post with a screenshot of the receipt, I'll draw a sketch of my cat Onion committing crimes on your behalf! (The drawing might not be good, but her book will be excellent, win-win!)

This is a local-ish (feasible to reach on a day trip) indie bookshop; can post clearer proof of purchase if needed!

... and given Robin Westman's aesthetics' overall vibe, I would not be surprised if this was partially based on pre-reform Russian orthography.

I think that's not a 3, I think that's a variant of the propisnaya zeh (handwritten letter zeh)? I'd guess the mysterious hook character is some kind of archaic letter.

to my memory, pre-reform Russian alphabet used dotted i the same way Ukrainian, Belarusian, Kazakh, Komi, Rusyn, etc. do ...

and i see it in 🚬 contexts, too, the whole "bromance" thing

i see this kinda rhetoric a lot β€” which is a little mind-boggling, because as well as being homophobic/lesbophobic, it's heterosexist, right? it derives from that hetero norm of "you cannot be FRIENDS with 'the opposite sex'"

12.08.2025 21:30 πŸ‘ 9 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

One thought that keeps coming up in my brain is: Do non-lesbians recognize that the refrain "we just want to focus on female friendship" reads as such a lesbophobic dog whistle?

Like, girls who love girls can still be friends. Heck, any relationship (even romantic ones) can include friendship

Despair is a tool of the oppressor. You are allowed to be upset, but we have ways to fight back and be Really Fucking Annoying to the assholes at the root of the issue. itch could have done better by the devs caught in the crossfire but focus on the real enemy

Given how much contemporary fag culture hinges on β€œbad girls”, divas, etc., this is a pretty useful and interesting framing.

But you already know what I think about faggotry as a way for men to circumvent patriarchal strictures and my ~complicated relationship to womanhood via faggotry

I’m so sorry you and Talia (and Talia’s circle in general) are dealing with this shit. It feels like yet another iteration of using vulnerabilities of hypothetical people to harass actual trans women off of social media and public platforms in general

Present tense is fine. People must cope.

So, I got a dead tree paperback copy of the Annotated King in Yellow, the paperback edition of the gorgeous limited edition Arc Dream Press put out in the late 2010s, I think. 100% worth getting, the annotations are v. useful and the design and typesetting is AMAZING

i'm so serious when i say that trans women need fucking money--especially Black trans women.

Evelynn is my friend and needs this real bad

Tomorrow evening, going to grab a random book off my shelf and read that. No idea what I'll end up choosing or if I'll finish it. If all else fails, I'll just read the complete Borges collection (Hurley's translations).

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Otherwise, slowly reading Katalepsis. I was not prepared for how long it is, as a series, so I guess I'll be reading it for the next foreseeable future around reading other stuff.

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It's good. It's not at all like BolaΓ±o's Nazi Literature in the Americas, but it engages with the same subject of like, the emotional draw. And for some reason reminded me strongly of Coldheart Canyon, which would be my next read if I had a Shabbesdik copy.

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

And Silver Nitrate explicitly engages, in a serious way, with the history of fascist occulture. Not as like, a spicy aesthetic detail but as a significant part of *some* strains of fascism, and especially the complex way it interweaves with Nazi ideology in specific.

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Silver Nitrate is explicitly about what someone who's *not* already the top of the heap, but who has no access to the narrative of being robbed of a "rightful" high status, might see in fascism. What the temptations are for the rest of us. How it's the same shit, ultimately, even.

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Here's something to proactively recommend the book: most books about the danger and temptation of fascism are about white straight dudes (Christian, unless you go spelunking for Jewish authors on purpose). And you know, many of those are like, good.

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Silver Nitrate also achieved the rare effect of me randomly thinking of the story in the middle of something else entirely, including thinking about TristΓ‘n's need to be adored and envied while wandering around my hallway vaguely tidying.

30.01.2025 15:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Right afterwards, finished Silver Nitrate (Silvia Moreno-Garcia) in about two-three sittings. Very much enjoyed it, even if the prose style (purely aesthetically, not necessarily a useful way of looking at style) is generally not one I seek out.
