Catching up on this important story by WBEZβs Anna Savchenko. After fleeing the war in Ukraine, they thought they were safe. Then came Trumpβs deportation blitz. www.wbez.org/immigration/...
Ms. Martinez is heartbroken to learn about todayβs tragic events in Minneapolis. Her thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family. Unfortunately, todayβs tragic shooting was all too predictable based on the reckless conduct we have seen ICE officers exhibit in Chicago, Minneapolis and across the country.
Statement from MARIMAR MARTINEZ, the Chicago woman who in October was shot by federal officers five times. The incident had parallels with the incident yesterday where an agent killed Renee Nicole Good.
A Chicago Sun-Times newspaper cover with the headline "Twin cities tragedy echoes Second City ICE shootings" with subheadline"Agent guns down woman who feds say tried to run them down with her car during Minneapolis deportation operation. But β as in Chicago incidents β that narrative is being challenged." Photo is of a person holding a sign that says "Shame" as federal agents, some in gas masks, look on in the background.
Chicagoans mourned Renee Good, as well as the cityβs own federal fatality in Silverio Villegas Gonzales.
A thread of @chicago.suntimes.com coverage from yesterday and a look back at our stories about DHS' history of having their narratives unwound when agents shoot people and claim "self defense."

I will never forgot the all-staff meeting after layoffs were announced where someone asked Moog whether he considered taking a pay cut himself (no, of course) β and why reporters and producers had to pay for CPMβs financial woes, instead of the people (ahem, him) who caused them. This is so gross.
