it’s an interesting theory because at the time, Friedmann was not very far left. it was a sort of logical+philosophical journey but he ended up in a place that feels very close to municipalism. if you liked the video i do recommend reading the book- he’s a very enjoyable writer.

but the contrasting group - those who don’t care about what they create and only want money…ugh it just makes me feel gross. these people can only imitate what they see and that’s so sad to me. if you’re going to take the time to make something, you should really believe in your own work.
i want to be successful on youtube for sure, but i also love making videos. i love sharing what i know with other people. i love hearing their response to it. and i’m sure these niche hobby creators feel the same way- no one can honestly say “i don’t want to make money off of these” i don’t think.
it’s kind of depressing- i don’t really understand it. like first of all, you aren’t successful on youtube so why would anyone watch this. but second, why would you ever want to create something that you don't really understand or have experience with? i’m witnessing a crisis of creativity here.
i got into a niche hobby and have been watching tons of vids by small channels on youtube. awesome to see so many creators who are making videos for the love of the hobby. but now the algo is giving me a lot of micro channels (under 500 subs) that solely discuss how to be successful on youtube.
feels so nice to be seen as useful to capitalists! keep spending! this is queer liberation!
