Ugh I don't want to knowπ
Super-woman and astronaut, Jannicke MIkkelsen sent me this heart-warmer today of a common aquaintance β€οΈ I'm simply at a loss for words. Thank you so much both Jannicke and @richardgarriott.bsky.social ! The world is a better place because of people like you (my day certainly is).
Thank you so much for reviewingβ€
Hi everyone! Today we are reviewing a cRPG about cosmic horrors beyond human comprehension from @highnorthstudios.bsky.social
A great game with a great story that proudly stands on the shoulders of classics like Ultima 4 and 5, but makes the game much more accessible than your average cRPG
Yesterday I stumbled across a Reddit-post from user "Apprehensive-Tea7447" showing off a PHYSICAL EDITION OF SKALD that he made as a fan project! The product looks insanely goodπ One of the most moving tributes I've ever gotten and it felt absolutely amazing to see!
Kudos! Great rundown!
Yeah it's REALLY impressive!
Right??!!
Yeah you're not the only oneπ
And just look how good it looks with grampa BG1 and the amazing Nox Archaist by 6502 Workshop!
Dice specially selected for their "slimy, gooey look" π
Even comes with a manual packed with lore from my blog and in-game art π

Picture of a presentation on Skald: Against the Black priory by HighNorthStudios, presented at Spillkonventet 2025. Slide says "Skald is how we remember games from the late 80s, but now how they actually were. Then defining Anemoia: Nostalgia for something you never experienced". Above is a picture of Skald and a Commodore 64 game, showing the visual difference.
Making a nostalgic game is not about recreating perfect technical accuracy, but capturing the feeling of how we remember the influences through our rose-tinted nostalgia glasses

It doesn't matter that a game doesn't have mainstream appeal that everyone LIKE, as long as enough people LOVE it!
