For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…
For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. - Rom. 3:23-4, 28
Happy Reformation Day!
The notion of God has been inscribed on the human soul as a first truth and a first principle - Leiden Synopsis, 1. 6. 4.
I take my book on the Sense of the Divine as a kind of elaboration on this passage from the Synopsis.
Thank you, Rhyne! That means a lot - and I’d be keen to hear what you think!
It was a pleasure to present on a book launch event of my ‘Sense of the Divine’ @universitypress.cambridge.org on campus this past week. Lecture will be up on our faculty podcast.
Our podcast Grace in Common has been going through Herman Bavinck’s Philosophy of Revelation, chapter by chapter. Read and listen along with us - the discussion on chapter 3 has just been released:

Got my author copies of A Sense of the Divine today from @cambridgeup.bsky.social - always such a joy. If you've read it or are reading it, I hope it's been useful to you!
Something often missed: for Kuyper, Calvinism’s confession of God’s sovereignty is fitting with and grounds representational democracy (and points to America). The ‘every square inch’ quote is no ground for theonomy. If Jesus is Lord, then no mere human or Christian can be.
Our TGC Keller Center Cohort on Neo-Calvinism and Apologetics starts soon (May 26-June 30)! I and Cory Brock will walk through topics like Bavinck's C. Worldview, Common Grace and Antithesis, and more - all key for cultural apologetics. Register below 👇

The doctrine of common grace logically presupposes the doctrine of the antithesis - without the antithesis common grace is superfluous and does no explanatory work, for it is the redemptive-historical epoch that suspends the eschatological culmination of the antithesis.
The paperback of the @tandtclark.bsky.social handbook of Neo-Calvinism will be released February 2026. It will be 1/4 of the price of the hardback.

We thirst for another world... By way of a reaction to it, materialism evokes spiritualism. But the spiritism in which this spiritualism today manifests itself in the lives of many people is nothing other than a new form of superstition.
