New research shows a sharp rise in young people using NHS mental health services with one in five young people in the UK now access specialist support by the age of 18, four times more than in the early 2000s.

A major study of over one million people has found a gene already known for its role in Alzheimer’s disease called APOE, also increases the risk of delirium, a condition that causes sudden confusion, especially in older people in hospital.

We recently held our final inaugural lecture showcase of the year featuring talks from Professors Joris Veltman and Charlie Lees from our Institute of Genetics and Cancer.
Veltman is tackling male infertility through advanced genomics, while Lees is enhancing IBD treatment with AI and datasets.
A new trial is testing whether a vaccine against the Epstein–Barr virus could help people recently diagnosed with MS. It’s early research, but it may open the door to a new way of tackling the condition.
