Dorothy Prevost was more than a witness to history; she shaped it. As a mother, she fought for her child’s dignity and education, and in doing so, helped secure opportunity and equality for generations of children who followed.
Dorothy Prevost was the embodiment of strength and courage.
As the last living parent of one of the four brave girls who desegregated New Orleans public schools, her passing reminds us how recent this powerful chapter in our city’s civil rights history was.

Though he was older than me, we both came up in the Cutoff, rooted in the same community that shaped our character and our faith. Bobbie was a steady presence in my life, one of my biggest supporters, always offering encouragement and strength.
My heart is heavy as I say goodbye to my dear friend, Bobbie Henry.
