I also read a lot of picture books in February and as always fell in love with more PBs. I need to be better about tracking the PBs I love! (and I will maintain that you do not need a kid to read, enjoy, and be swept away by picture books)

A middle grade mystery thriller about art crime!? Sign me up. Read this one in a few sittings because I needed to know what happened. Also, FWIW, I am a major scaredy cat and I think scaredy cats can handle this one! bookshop.org/p/books/the-...
Knew nothing about this book when I pulled it off the library shelf (a truly fun way to stumble on a good read) + it was more literary than my taste has been lately, but also SO GOOD. How does the author write characters so well?! Grief is a major theme, FYI.

I now cannot wait to watch Ice Dancing at the next Olympics! Heard this compared to a teen soap + Wuthering Heights and it's delightful

It's time for another end of the month book appreciation round-up! Books continue to be a balm for me. No matter the day, I can end it with at least 5 minutes of reading (except for last night when I was too jazzed about the Survivor premiere and also too tired when it ended at 10 pm to read)
The last line made me laugh out loud and I am obligated to share any piece that makes me LOL and literally LOL

Imagine being a billionaire and not finding joy every day with just giving your money away. Like, every day you could walk up to a small nonprofit, hand them $100k, and walk away knowing you'd just hugely changed people's lives. How broken would you have to be for that NOT to be what you chose?

And this MG by Claire Swinarski. Love interstitials in books.
Jodi Picoult's By Any Other Name. A doorstopper that I was worried would be a slog, but was more drawn in to the historical POV than expected. Super interesting take on the Shakespeare authorship question.
January has been a good reading month. Want to shout out a few books that are getting me through:
First up, In Between Bookstore -- a fun take on the "if you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say" trope. Similar vibes to the movie My Old Ass
I finally broke the cycle of purchasing/returning when I was so sick of how unfun the returning process is... which in turn inspired this piece!
Wrote a new piece for @belladonnacomedy.bsky.social! Absolutely inspired by a period last year when I was purchasing and returning way too much.

The joy of winter break as a kid is still deeply ingrained in me. We've reached Dec. 20 and I'm feeling a deep need to make cookies, check out a stack of books from the library, and follow no routines until 2025.
See you next year! (a joke I loved to say in elementary school + still do)
Read so many picture books this year -- was surprised by how many were so affecting and emotional. Thankful for an equal number of funny ones to keep things in balance

Maybe the only 2024 superlatives you'll read with pickles winning a category.
(and if you do see pickles mentioned in year end round-ups, please let me know!)

I like reading @emilyinyourphone.bsky.social's newsletters & this one was no exception
"What I am choosing to focus on this Thanksgiving season is how I can rebuild connections, give back to my community and find hope in this polarized world." (& some ways to do that!)
Watching the Simone Biles documentary on Netflix and am so inspired!
I scrolled Substack notes a lot after leaving Twitter and enjoyed, but hoping BlueSky will be a touch better (aka please do not let the majority of posts be about how people are growing their subscriber/follower counts. PLEASE)
With Black Friday sales fast approaching, seems like an appropriate time to share this piece I wrote for @belladonnacomedy.bsky.social

good for him! work-life balance is so important
Would love to be added to the 12x12 pack!
2) Recent books I've loved are Strangeville School is Totally Normal (modern day Wayside School) and Fang Fiction about a girl who disappears into the world of her favorite vampire series.
