A great evening
It depends what you are looking for in a new Opeth album. It’s not „more of the same“ and it’s not „easy listening“. But it is amazing
It’s different. Proggier than ever but at the same time a return to death metal growls. So yes and no. That’s what makes it so great for me. No second „Blackwater Park“ but if I am looking for that I’ll just pull out BWP again.
At least you won’t have to wait until it arrives to hear the amazing music. 😊
Absolutely. Looking forward to listening to the vinyl. But not tonight. Tonight I am going to see Sepultura on their farewell tour.
Just unpacked it and took some photos. A beautifully colored vinyl, a letter, the cd version of the album and a set of fountain pen and ink branded with the „O“ logo plus a certificate of authenticity. All in a big box.
I already have tickets for the Berlin show. A friend called me and said „I saw Opeth are coming in February. I got us both tickets“

No unfortunately not. Only one festival per year and that is „Brutal Assault“ with a group old friends. But I saw the lineup and seriously considered going there.
Generally speaking if you do not know Opeth you can give every album in their back catalog a listen. Very broad musically, styles range from acoustic pop-ish albums (damnation) over death metal (Blackwater Park) to funkier kraut rock-ish albums (sorceress). All unique and worth a listen.

I stayed up until midnight yesterday and listened to it as soon as it was available on Spotify. Collectors edition should arrive in the mail today. I was sooo hyped and I was not disappointed.
That being said: there is no gatekeeping in metal for me. So no „good“ or „bad“ fans. just enjoy the music
It has always had me. Katatonia, Opeth, Satyricon, Enslaved, Dismember, Unleashed,… There is no escape…
German winters are just people complaining that it is too cold whereas German summers are the same people complaining that it is too hot.
