Same! We were at the mercy of whoever the operator was, some would get the printouts as they came out, others would let them accumulate for awhile. And there were account limits, there was the stress of worrying about exhausting your account before the end of semester.
Learned Fortran about the same time. First encountered it in high school, where the teacher would take our card decks up to the local college to run the code. First year of college was amazing when you could get several runs through in one night. Used it in my first jobs.

Getting the knitting ready to take along for a trip … a newly cast-on long sweater vest, a shawl halfway thru 1200 yds of fingering weight yarn, and fingerless mitts about 2/3 done. A month+ of knitting projects sounds about right for a 4 night trip, doesn’t it?
