I don't know any teenage boy who is that psychopathic. A monster who has never had contact with reality

I guess they see their competitors as GB News rather than BBC etc. shame.

Thank God AI isn't running the coverage of this global crisis. Because human journalism is revelling in its objectivity, critical thinking and evidence based reporting.

Watching Sky News and just amazed how bad it is. Their reporting in the field is always great but their analysis is just old blokes echoing Trump lines. Really sad. @skynewsrss.bsky.social

However boring or biased (ie it doesn't parrot your views) you think the BBC might be, never underestimate its value as a reliable resource for the majority of people who have no decent sources - at least a benchmark for information and sometimes the only source

So we still have a news organisation that can handle a massive global story properly, reporting from every part of a complex multinational event with expert, informed and impartial correspondents - amazing that a medium country like UK can do this. The BBC is an amazing asset for us and the world

I was a 14 year old on a plane back from a camping trip in Iceland (yes really) in summer 1977 and the pilot announced his death mid flight. He was that massive. It's taken us decades to get past the myth and decline to realise how incredible he was in his prime. This film makes that case.

Baz Luhrmann: β€˜There’s the image of Elvis and then there’s the man’ The singular director has made a second film about the King of Rock’n’roll and this time audiences will get to see a side of him they’ve never seen before

I know there are other things happening but the Elvis movie is the best thing Baz Luhrmann's done. It's a stunning portrait of an immense artist at his peak. Hugely enjoyable as a concert movie but also a documenting the best of American culture. www.theguardian.com/film/2026/fe...

Iran latest: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead, Israel says Latest US-Iran news as Trump launches attack and ayatollah has been found dead

Extraordinary at so many levels. How could Iran not protect their leader? Also, Trump's foreign policy is 'working'. A sh&t storm is coming
but it is one that the US administration wants.

Iran latest: Netanyahu says 'growing signs' Iran's supreme leader Khamenei is 'gone' after US-Israel attacks The Israeli PM gave a televised address after a day of attacks on Iran, and retaliation from Tehran across the Middle East. Satellite images earlier showed damage to Khamenei's compound.

Well this is going to shake up the conventional wisdom. If true. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cn...

Quite right. Often the people most interested in news issues are avoiding regular news because of feelings of inundation, anxiety etc.
That's possibly why Today is trying to make its bulletins less endlessly brutal

I don't disagree. But interesting coming from someone who produces the FT's least news-related content. I suspect many of the lost Today listeners are news avoiders not disappointed news junkies. The latter are massively over served still.

I haven't read everything of course but I've not seen anyone admit to being mistaken or surprised.

Interesting to see how in the UK everyone is making massive generalised conclusions from a by-election. They are by their nature unrepresentative. Yet everyone using it to prove their own political theses. See also: I went to talk to voters and they also confirmed my priors.

And then there are reporters like Steve Rosenberg and there's nothing better than an informed experienced correspondent who tells a story in detail without spin

No wonder broadcast news is bleeding audiences. A major breaking news story and the BBC main bulletin has two correspondents repeating the same points that were in the first package. So slow, so performative, 'theatre of news'.

And yet no interest in places like the UK from protestors who care about liberty and oppression.

This shows how populist calls for the reduction of HE by Reform and the Tories are addressing a symptom not the problem - we need an economy that makes use of graduates not fewer graduates

Climber guilty of manslaughter after leaving girlfriend to die Thomas Plamberger sentenced to five months in prison by mountaineering judge who questioned his claim that Kerstin Gurtner told him to save himself

In that sense, the movie is consistent. The tone, sound and visuals flies all over the place (dare I say with Powell and Pressburger vibes?) but the moral tone is unflinching in avoiding any romantic mush or soft soap. Well done Emerald Fennell.

The Wuthering Heights I’ve read is dripping with lust and cruelty It’s true, a decorous adaptation wouldn’t have the blood and filth, but where’s the fun in that?

Camilla Long makes a good point that the Bronte novel was also pretty heavy on lust and cruelty so perhaps this rather nihilist rendering is quite faithful to the original The Wuthering Heights I’ve read is dripping with lust and cruelty

Gosh everyone should go see Wuthering Heights. It's so bad in so many sumptuous ways that everyone will have something to hate. So many potentially wonderful ideas as well, that go nowhere. And overall, quite nasty. Basically, soft porn sadism with Disney princess sets.

Interesting how VAR seems to have reduced referees' ability to make good judgements in football - it's a small sample but today's FA Cup games [not my team's!] seem to suggest they've become too reliant on the failsafe of the tech
