yeaaaah. many of jrrt's women seem to exist with little reason or motivation other than to be caretakers (wives, mothers, healers) for other characters. you can be reparative to some extent but it's a major theme. i think fanfic has to be purposeful to avoid it, and it's surprisingly difficult.

i'm sure there's probably queer stuff out there, but it doesn't feel baked in to the norm. and i don't think that's what most people want, which is fine! i get that it's a fantasy that just doesn't speak to me personally, i'm the outlier.
i can't take HMC seriously unfortunately, and i rarely see anything about galadriel & motherhood that i feel isn't tied up in traditional misogyny. (which i guess is expected when the canon cultural worldbuilding is mired in heteronormative patriarchal shit.)
