New from @michellepitcher.bsky.social: Last week, former Dallas County District Judge Amber Givens was fighting her sanctions for judicial misconduct before the Texas Supreme Court. Today, she’s the presumptive Democratic nominee and likely next district attorney for one of Texas’ biggest counties.
This is the Talarico (green)/Crockett map alongside the Bernie/Biden map.
Obviously Talarico picked up a bunch more rural counties than Sanders here, but you can see the Austin/San Antonio/Valley/El Paso vs. Houston/Dallas/East Texas split still

Seems to me Paxton would just lose either way, & either on May 27 or earlier Cornyn would just drop the adoring Trump shtick & just be the Cornyn of the past 24 years. If pressed on any flip-flopping, he would just say well you do what you need to do in a primary, his white hair glowing senatorially
The looming, unsexy variable all along has been that the GOP would just get its shit together and nominate Cornyn.
It doesn't end the race, but if you were banking on the Talarico-Abbott voter, that's probably a Cornyn voter.

In my state House district: Montserrat Garibay followed by Kathie Tovo (runoff). (In neighboring HD, Samantha Lopez-Resendez might win outright.)

Statistically speaking, incumbents lose runoffs.
But Paxton has unique weaknesses and we will have X number of weeks/months of both desperately seeking the magic Trump endorsement...
