I imagine it is the same thoughts as people scouring Amazon's best seller lists to claim whether a game is succeeding or bombing. They crave results immediately and grab any scraps they can, to the detriment of a gradual and realistic approach to game performance.

And that's my Beat-in-2025 list done...2 months late heh. My GOTY goes to Donkey Kong Bananza, but huge shoutouts to Pipistrello, Lone Fungus, Kirby Air Riders, and Chronicles of the Wolf for games released in 2025. Played 113 games in 2025; maybe one day I'll talk about games I didn't beat hehe.
74. Metroid Prime 4 by @retrostudios.bsky.social and Nintendo. It fails to reach the expectations of the original trilogy and feels odd both in story and in new mechanics. I really liked some of the set pieces and bosses. Would have liked more warps and stuff in the desert. Beautiful environments.
73. Jubilee by @finalbossblues.itch.io and @redartgames.bsky.social. A challenging open platformer that was easy to get into and explore. It was great pick-up-and-play experience between longer bouts of other games. Nice pixel work and lots of biomes and secrets. A couple spots were hard to escape.
72. Kirby Air Riders by Nintendo (and Masahiro Sakurai). Kirby Air Ride's final form. Road Trip is a good single player mode and justifies the game. City Trial is quite fun, and having multiple characters now is very welcome. Boss Fight controls are not exactly good tho. Lot of stages to ride!
71. Gimmick! 2 by Bit Wave Games and @clearrivergames.com. Although it might not be entirely the same style as the original, this sequel is more accessible and also larger (in level length). I found it enjoyable and well animated. Dave Wise does a decent job, though it is hard to compete with the OG
At this rate Gamera 2000 Remaster is inevitable!
Optimization is very much a key factor in making a game viable on all platforms, and I notice the baggage some engines add to the output as well. So I appreciate the effort here!

70. Killing Time: Resurrected by @nightdivestudios.bsky.social and @atari.com. A full remastered version of a 3DO FPS. A semi-open world structure and FMV recordings of real actors. Great gunplay, fun exploration. Extras are great additions too. Looked up some hints, but still had a grand time!!
69. Gato Roboto by @doinksoft.bsky.social and @devolverdigital.com. A short-form Metroidvania in which you play a cat who can also pilot a mechsuit. I like how each location plays with different parts of the cat-to-mech dynamic. Some battles felt winded, and the story did not land great. Still fun.
68. Alba: A Wildlife Adventure by @ustwogames.co.uk and Plug In Digital. Goodness gracious what a charming game. You walk around a small island, taking photos of animals and helping to clean up and save a wildlife park. Nice little gameplay change-ups, and a very cute artstyle! Explore! :3
67. Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero. Rounding out the collection, Zero feels a bit different. New characters with unique styles (punch v sword). More combo action in the case of Raita, and the QOL additions definitely helped. I could not figure out how to play as Azuki. Would have been solid stateside.
66. Cyber Citizen Shockman 3: The princess from another world. A return to sword combat and introducing animated cutscenes aplenty! The story is, frankly, all over the place, though. I think the devs played Valis and said "lets do that with Shockman!" Fun adventure, all the same!
65. Cyber Citizen Shockman 2: A New Menace. Very different feel, since you use a gun this time and the game is linear. Much more story, and I like seeing a bit of humor in them, consistent through the series. Overall better than 1, but I think I liked the blade gameplay more.
64. Cyber Citizen Shockman by Shinyuden and @ratalaikagames.com. I got the 4-game release via LRG and it is a great set. Rewind + save states make these games much easier, but I am not sure I'd have a great time without them. I like the unique map system, but the hit detection is bad against bosses.
63. FANTASIAN Neo Dimension by Mistwalker. I have not played through such a scale of RPG to completion in a while. It surprised me with how much more it kept giving, but backtracking and searching made it slow. Later bosses were almost puzzles (not bad). A bit of filler, but great ost and design.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is Edia's doing. I am all for getting these deep cuts into the modern and western audience, but I would prefer not so many cut corners.
