European justice is slow, but it still works.
Portugal fined 10 million euro plus running fine for not complying with 2019 judgement on failing to properly designate and protect #Natura2000 sites.
Important precedent. Hope PT gov will now do the decent thing and start complying.
The EPโs envi committee just voted to maintain a standalone LIFE asking for โฌ6.4 billion
Well done
Now the EC should cissue an emended MFF proposal that preserves this crucial tool, both for adressing the biodiversity crisis and to enable local level constructive cooperation between stakehonders
So EU Commissioner Hansen is back drumming up #biofuels as a solution to expensive oil. An idea that failed 20 years ago.
Reminder:
- we dont have the land
-when fossil fuel goes up, against commodities follow
-further linking oil and food markets is going to starve the most vumerable.
This week, EU lawmakers will resume discussions on whether to censor how to talk about plant-based food... weโd rather they stop spreading confusion.
Thereโs #NoConfusion.

The EUโs climate retreat problem: punishing early movers
๐
People across Europe are demanding a lead-free future.
7 in 10 European citizens support a strong EU ban. Yet the latest draft weakens the restriction by excluding bullets.
Lead puts human, wildlife and nature health at risk. Ignoring science and public demand is not leadership.

Research from our Biosciences Department and the British Trust for Ornithology shows that hotter European summers are reducing migratory birdsโ ability to fuel up for their long journeys. These changes could have serious consequences for bird populations across Europe & Africa.

โThe climate scientists we surveyed were unambiguous: current economic models canโt capture what matters most โ the cascading failures and compounding shocks that define climate risk in a warmer world โ and could undermine the very foundations of economic growth.โ
Should be the top story everyday.

Tomorrow is the deadline for EU Member States to publish their Renewable Acceleration Areas.
Current attack on environmental legislation goes much further than stopping the green deal. It tries to reverse 40 years of env lawmaking.
It will kill nature and people, harm most European companies & destroy the EU which is based on a common rules based market.

Thanks Sebastian. You are right.
That said you can legitimately look at it at face value. Most money goes to land used directly and indirectly for livestock.
And direct payments are not impact free as you argue. They lock in the status quo, eg by making land more expensive for new entrants.
The livestock industry bangs on bout not interfering with people's choices. But from grossly distorted subsidies to anti consumer legislation it keeps rigging the system.
To be clear, the vast majority of support does not go to support biodiversity rich grazing

Not that many good news at the moment so take this one into the WE.
DK gov got EC state aid greenlight for a 1bn euro investment in farms buy out for nature restoration. Partbof the deal negotiated with farm unions and NGOs to meet climate and nitrogen targets.
Particularly shocking is the demand to dismantle the Water Framework Directive and build infrastructures without assessments and safeguards.
This against the backdrop of climate change boosted disasters spiralling out of control.
Civilisation self destruction on live streaming.
As Meloni and Merz lead the assault against EU laws, polluting industries ditch any pretence of "simplification" and ask for dismantling 40 years of laws protecting nature and humannhealth and safety.

However, this push for 'simplification' is weakening EU environmental laws, including the EU's water law. ๐๐ฆฆ

In French updates, ex minister Duplomb resurrects its pesticides liberalisation bill which was killed by the supreme court. A doctored version will be added to the big farm lobby pleading bill of the new gov, alonside wolf killing, water theft, and other goodies.
And just to be clear, EU laws are being dismantled to profit a very small group of companies and commercial interests. The vast majority of businesses, just like citizens will lose out.
