I love watching people use LLMs in public. Theyโ€™ll reply to a breaking news article and say โ€œ@grok is this true?โ€ Babe where do you think itโ€™s about to pull its answer from

That sucks and Iโ€™m sorry.

nyt website currently resembles one of those mock covers people made before 2016 election: economy floundering, war in the middle east, scandal-plagued cabinet sec, brazen corruption....

it's insane that my country's current position is that, if we don't like the leader of a sovereign nation, not only do we get to kill them we get to pick their successor

Embarrassment is the best-case scenario.

Same! There used to be a Facebook group called Irish Jews with the tagline, โ€œThe few, the proud, the best-looking on campus.โ€

The American political class is utterly delusional, adrift in a dream of normality, unable to process the actual reality of events on the ground, where the US just launched a completely unprovoked war against a massive country, murdered its leadership, and demanded its conversion to a vassal state.

Yep. โ€œKnowing who to be mad at is praxisโ€ is Mariame Kabaโ€™s quote and it is wisdom for these times. (1/2)

there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).

the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

The U.S. made this class of stunningly stupid, pudding-soft MAGA parasites who have managed to move through life without ever encountering genuinely meaningful pushback. This led them to starting this wildly dangerous war in Iran - and looks like their reality distortion field is no longer working.

This Used to Be the Future Longtime Thieves in the Temple blogger Alec Mento returns with a dozen new essays excoriating the venality of political and corporate โ€œleadersโ€ and...

You can only get my new book, *This Used to Be the Future*, at my storefront, Blunt Instruments (linked below). You may find the bookโ€™s final essay, โ€œLove is the Answer One More Time,โ€ unexpectedly personal, especially after reading the other 11 more analytical essays. I hope so, anyway.

8 Badass Librarians We Need to Celebrate This International Womenโ€™s Day In the late Victorian era, Melvil Dewey, inventor of the Dewey Decimal system (and a womanizer) argued that women make excellent librarians because we have โ€œa clear head, strong handโ€ฆ and great heaโ€ฆ

Stunned to be included on this list of badasses ๐Ÿ˜ณ High praise. Incredible cohort. Honored!

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating; AIPAC funds people who agree with it. it's not bribing them.

I get that it may seem like an academic distinction, but it's pretty important for a bunch of reasons. 1

I canโ€™t tell if theyโ€™re ugly. I can say with certainty that they are disorienting to someone who already has trouble parsing faces. Lots of people suddenly have what looks like the same face, strangely unlike the many other faces Iโ€™ve seen before.

ICE detains reporter Estefany Rodrรญguez in Nashville - Nashville Banner Reporter Estefany Rodrรญguez, detained by ICE with no arrest warrant, may face deportation. Her attorneys seek immediate review of the legality of her case.

ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. Sheโ€™s married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.

Theyโ€™ve already sent her to Louisiana.

What does this imply for those of us who are not Christian, and who labor under the assumption that we're protected by the First Amendment?

Republicans are using kids as a smokescreen for what Big Tech lobbyists want: a national surveillance program to harvest our data with zero protections for people and their privacy.

We must fight this dangerous expansion of surveillance technology.

"I do not want trains because the homeless people could get into the area easier" so we have bad to no public transport and people think its inherently inconvenient. "American exceptionalism" makes people think nothing better is possible because we would already have it and other people would not.

Started reading "War and Peace," and I think it should come with a set of seventy Warhammer figurines you can paint and move around into different configurations to keep track of who's who and how they're related.
