Tbh i don’t particularly think it's accurate to compare the historic Levantine crusades to modern US interventionism or to the IDF. Because these current conflicts are much more malicious. Some medieval lords feuding for access to Jerusalem doesn't stack up to Israel trying to De-populate Palestine
The amusing part is he's an evangelical protestant. Like mf, the crusades would be levied against you ⚰️ he’s borrowing images from historical people who would have hated him.

And then there’s his superstitions. He can’t quite explain a rational behind why he does what he does other than this is how it’s always been. Outcomes or conventionality don’t steer his actions, reverence for something greater than himself does. The Gods, the ancestors, and a little luck
Being a duelist feeds into this. While very fancy and admirable he holds people to their actions and words. Traditions hold us to a standard in some ways. But also there’s no dancing around it, he imposes social norms with the veiled threat of violence.
Being a lord isn’t a mistake either, a very tangible tradition it’s a status that is visibly passed down: with privileges and responsibilities alike. This points to institutional structures we carry and how our circumstances are mostly chosen even before we have any input.
His monstrous appearance is something physically transmitted to him. Just as looking to the past we can see the errors of our predecessors he physically looks unsettling. He challenges players to confront the sins of the past as something we live with here and now.
Now what are these deeper themes I’ve realized? In my reflections I’ve seen him to be a personification of Tradition itself. Tradition meaning to hand down, entrust, and to surrender to. Now here’s the rant
He is a duelist, he savors pitting his skills against others when honor and one’s safety are both on the line. He is also a deeply superstitious man, he entrusts the Gods and the fates with all his heart. He feels deep down they have a plan for him and he yearns for a signs as to what this is.
He lives in the capital of Oppara in a historic townhouse owned by his family. There he serves as an agent of his kin who are otherwise occupied in the Avin prefecture. He is their eyes, ears, and the looming shadow of this noble clan in the capital.
His mother is the 2nd child of the house patriarch, and his father was a knight of the same house… different branch. For this he bears a lot of hallmarks of inbreeding. His skin is ghostly white, his eyes are bit bugged out, and a whole slew of other things. Suffice to say he looks a bit ghoulish
So who is Lord Leonard (pronounced Leo-Nard)? He is a taldain nobleman of house Merrosett. This house is known for being founded by a wizard who eloped with a princess many years ago. Since then they have engaged in a lot of consanguineous marriages to ensure the magic purity of their blood
