Me plus @valmcdermid.bsky.social on the BBC’s Take Four Books.
Merry almost Christmas (from a surprisingly chilly room in the National Library of Scotland :)

This year we’ve started broadcasting BBC Radio 4’s Front Row from Scotland each Wednesday. Here’s our brilliant Glasgow team enjoying a well earned Christmas drink
Small boy wears skinny jeans and tartan waistcoat. His expression suggests it has not been his choice
My son seems to have gone to school dressed as Gary Innes to celebrate St Andrew’s Day
What an era!!

He’s been here about twenty years, but occasionally my husband still says things that I believe no local would say. Today: “dog mess”
Cars covered with snow in a driveway
A fox red labrador eats snow
Do we get excited about snow on this site or are we more mature than that? #StormBert
Post you from a different era challenge
Despite a massive head start, BlueSky has now overtaken Threads in the US 👇
The real test of Bluesky’s new power is whether someone on here will finally do a nuclear take that ends their career.
Zoe Ball quitting breakfast on radio 2 right now 😞 staying with radio 2 though 😍
Massive shout out to the bbc audio scotland books team @gillianwheelan.bsky.social and @domhowell.bsky.social - they weren’t that enthusiastic about starting again on another network at work today so give them a wee bit of love

Leaves on a pavement in a love heart shape in Elderslie Scotland
Walking home from the pub and someone had brushed all the leaves into a big love heart. Not my husband, he’s just there for scale
I have just gone through an NI phase with the new job I promise 🤣
Read it, loved it, think about it a lot when I walk about Belfast!
Read it, loved it 👏👏
You guys seem like nice normal people: I’m taking myself off on a reading break - ALONE. It needs to be really good so I need some book recommendations (ideally available in paperback)
Has anyone made a Paisley Starter Pack yet?
I’d like to write a novel that is even 5% as good as Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner by James Hogg. I try to re-read it often to ward off the possibilities of ever becoming a Wringhim or even a Gilmartin.
I want to live on Barra one day and have sheep. I do a lot of Duolingo as a result. I have rheumatoid arthritis, I had a stillborn daughter in 2014 who had Down’s Syndrome. My dad died in 1999, he was an English teacher. My mum died this year and claimed to have never read a book! It’s a heady mix.
Anyway now I work in arts and music for BBC radio 4, 3, 1 and Radio Scotland and Ulster. Recent DNA results suggest 96% of my DNA is from the north of Ireland so it is nice to take it back there
Introduction: from Elderslie (disputed birthplace of Sir William Wallace) part of my problem is I like too many things due to my natural exuberance - so I’ve worked in sports, news, entertainment, politics and in radio, television, online, digital, university and… in a jazz themed restaurant.
