Remember, if you write in your own answer on an ID question, that means you are asking a data analyst somewhere to pick the category to put you in (possibly 'other/something else'). It's sometimes unavoidable, but important to realize that's what you are essentially doing.

I worked at a social science firm for several years a learned a lot there – one thing being the value of imperfect categories when being counted. I tend to refer to myself as "statistically bi" since queer is what fits me best but is seldom included on surveys.

I lost a dear friend and queer elder in the fall. Someone who had lived with HIV since the early 90s. Because of the incredible strides in science and medical care since, his life was full and joyous and he died of cancer instead. These drugs are nothing short of a miracle. (And, fuck cancer.)
