This is a life and death story for the UK – so why is it being brushed under the carpet? | Aditya Chakrabortty The news that healthy life expectancy is in decline in Britain exposes a serious truth about the state we’re in, says Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty

This is such an important issue that desperately needs more attention. If government policy continues to follow the austerity model, this is going to affect us all!

Many thanks to Aditya Chakrabortty ✍️ at @theguardian.com (3/5)

However, since the start of the 2010s, that positive progress has stalled and even got worse. People are becoming ill and dying for entirely avoidable reasons. For the first time in around a century, Life Expectancy is now on the decline. (2/5)

Thrilled to see Social Murder? covered in The Guardian! (06.03.26)

Over the last 100 years, Life Expectancy in the UK, US and other rich nations has improved beyond recognition. Year on year, we’re living longer and more healthily than ever! (1/5)

A very unimportant observation, but one that keeps coming up for me:

If I tried on a hat and it looked as big and capacious as the ones Trump wears, I would put it back on the rack and accept that it didn't fit my head.

Wouldn't want to look like a prick.

Looking forward to the UK media reducing their endless Reform coverage. And giving proportionate coverage to the Greens who are clearly a new force in the land & have a right to be profiled, heard & scrutinised.

Crazy how close the pizzagate loonies were to the truth. If only their suspicions had been on a multi-millionaire's private island instead of a Washington, DC pizza restaurant, they would've been bang on the money.

Big flip!
Double flip!
Triple flip behind the back!
Each time, the kids cheered. Amazed.
Brian put down his phone.
He popped to the tesco across from his hotel and bought a packet of scotch pancakes.
Back in his room, he sat on the edge of the bed and used his closed laptop as a frying pan.
He flipped three in one go, like they were a stack of beer mats.
"Good one, Daddy," he imagined them saying.

14 February 2026.

It was Valentine’s Day.
So I bought some roses and shimmied into position.
Hiding behind the bathroom door, I giggled to myself, excited for when my wife would next need to use the loo.
She was going to be so surprised!
Flask of coffee in one hand. Flowers in the other.
I’d wait all night if I had to.
