Alan Moore made him out to be a creepy sex pest in Promethea too.
Checks out. The playlist in the 1e VtM Stoytellers Guide suggested all of Unknown Pleasures! Itβs what got me into Joy Division
D&D 4e was, arguably, the best designed version of the game. Unfortunately, that tight design meant that it was a really specific type of game and that game wasnβt what D&D players were looking for. It was a really dope combat adventure game. It also would have made a great base for a video game.
Generic system often require a setting to bolt on all kinds of new rules to be effective, but I think Savage Worlds does the best job of serving the widest amount of games with the least setting-specific requirements.
The Year Zero Engine games are also pretty interesting exploration/survival/base building games. Twilight: 2000 is my favorite, but thatβs a reflection of my age and interests. Vaesen and Forbidden Lands are also neat.
Blades in the Dark has the tightest system of the post-Forge games where playing with narrative control became the principal design focus. Itβs also probably the most limited in types of stories you can tell with it compared to PbtA or FATE games because of its tightness.
Call of Cthulhu is interesting because the game has barely changed over its history. Itβs a really well done system for a specific type of story. Other excellent βtells one type of story wellβ games are: Pendragon and The One Ring.
Black and white sounds safer, so go with black and pink
Neverwinter Nights then.
Morrowind now.
A lot of supernatural myths are borne out of conflict between βsocietyβ and unconscious/conscious sexuality, so that tracks.
The only way to follow the World Cup Draw is to read @barryglendenning.bsky.social on The Guardian.
He makes us sick too, Barry. Whoβs the likely favorite for next yearβs award? Marine Le Pen? Putin? Maybe a posthumous award for Idi Amin?
What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?
1991. It was the perfect YEAR:
Guns N Roses, Use Your Illusion I & II
The KLF, The White Room
My Bloody Valentine, Loveless
Nirvana, Nevermind
Pearl Jam, Ten
Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger
A Tribe Called Quest, Low End Theory
And thatβs just SOME

Happy Holiday to all who celebrate
I think my particular blend of neurodiversity makes it hard for me to transcend the framework of a game to really get a βnext levelβ immersion. It has happened a few times, but I can probably count them on one hand and Iβve been playing TRPGs for 41 years
[record scratch] I guess youβre wondering how I got into this situationβ¦
My V, standing in the street with her pistol drawn
My V, looking salty in a market with the Witcher-themed armor
My V staring nostalgically at a picture of her and her late amigo, Jackie Welles
A grainy photo of Takemura shooting Dexter Deshawn in his head.
Now that I have a computer that can run it, Iβm having a blast replaying Cyberpunk 2077 and exploring the post-2.0 world that I missed on my PS4.
I think the key to the latter is to:
A) have a specific question and not try to come up with βthe absolute comprehensive truthβ
B) not have any preconceived notions
C) do thorough research.
The former fail on almost every count.
The academics are more interested in integrating theories from other disciplines to either examine how TRPGs work on a more meta level or how they could be used for βoff-labelβ tasks.
Thereβs a real disconnect between TRPG folks who wax poetic on game theory and academics who are studying TRPGs. The non-academics are a lot of times looking for a Rosetta Stone to justify their opinions about games or typologies that explain why they like x game and those other people love y game.

This is more accurate than I am comfortable with.

Iβve noticed that the last couple years of college age kids have grown up risk-averse and are so terrified of getting it wrong that they donβt risk getting it right. I feel like mechanical engagement might be because you can βget it rightβ easier than a narrative.
I am down. Iβm hoping to write my Masters Thesis on VtM
This is pretty amazing. Thank you!
Here he is in wrestling garb: KYLE VAN HELSING
He is, ironically, portraying a vampire hunter going after the stable of (pretend) vampires, The Coven.
After a month off between stories, my #vampirethemasquerade chronicle picks up again tonight. One of my players has decided that his vampire will maintain his connection to humanity by making the stand-up-to-pro-wrestling transition with an indie promotion in Brooklyn.
