Needless to say, after getting a few opinions, it maintains the essence of what Louise's original Spider Jump which is what I was hoping for.
We're still working on the game, we will have more to show at some point. We just don't want to show off stuff that would be better saved for a curtain pull
The new Spider Jump still lets Louise reach (about) the same distance as before. Keeping it the furthest reaching jump in the game, but with a severely capped jump height rather, keeping it as the intended skill based technique it was intended to be.
It was a very fun move to learn and master, but it simply let Louise do too much with one move. Much like that one string of moves you could do in Mario Odyssey, you know the one. I've been wanting to nerf it for a few months now and I finally got around to doing it.
The Spider Jump was what we were calling the "Roll Activation + Jump" move. A move to get Louise to above her typical top-speed and tallest jump in an instant.
I'm happy with how we were able to nerf one of the most powerful tricks in the game yet still let it maintain its niche as one of the most fun advanced movement techniques in the game. Here's a little thread about it #indie #gamemaker
