They obviously didn’t consider any second and third order consequences. We know they didn’t because they didn’t consider the issue of insuring ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, only the fact that they could sink Iranian Navy ships in the area.

I guess it really depends on how dug in the missile and drone launchers are and how well the Iranians can relocate them and continue firing while facing frequent sorties. Plus I suppose whether the U.S. commits ground troops, since that’s getting a little muddier.
